A STUDY ABOUT THE DIGITAL ISSUES

A Case Study

• Implementing Digital Ethics and Privacy
To survive in this new age of data privacy, it is important to gain and maintain the trust of your
customers. They allow you to handle their private and sensitive information. It is only imperative
and ethical to win their confidence.
The year 2018 saw some welcome changes in terms of privacy laws like the GDPR law in
Europe
and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Although, the CCPA will only go into effect
from January 2020. Both data protection laws give people the right to their information – how it
is being collected and used. Companies that do not abide by or violate the laws can be faced with
civil action lawsuits or can be charged with heavy fines.
Digital ethics and privacy are gaining more importance today as we play around with more and
more data. Organizations that collect, store and use private data from individuals need to
understand and make data security their top priority. Data is collected in heaps, which creates
inherent security risks. Complying with government laws and regulations is a good start.
However,
companies need to think beyond just being compliant.
A collaborative structure of trust and security must be built by sharing standards and knowledge
across organizations and individuals. Practicing digital ethics, privacy and transparency will not
only display trust but will also attract strong talent and create an image of corporate integrity.
Learning to use new information technologies (ICT) such as computer is considered to be a
fundamental aspect- even an obligation – of citizenship and employment in contemporary
society.” (Selwyn, 2005,122)

Data Security protects data from compromise by external attackers and malicious insiders.
Data Privacy governs how data is collected, shared and used.
• Introduction
Nowadays, Technology had a big role and positive effects on people and society in the
way of connecting people with friends and family thousands of miles away, and allowing
businesses to scale in ways that would previously have been impossible. But being user
of this advancement of digital technology are we responsible enough to handle the
privacy and the information that we input to this digital technology. Given the rapid
changes in technology and the growing use of electronic media there is a need for
better understanding the ethical and social implications of digital media. The Security
Risk Recommendation and the Privacy Guidelines both call for the development of
flexible and technology-neutral whole-of-society national strategies supported at the
highest level of government to address digital security and privacy risk.

• Background
The digital world is not static and continues to experience very rapid development. The
widespread
changes brought about by today's digital environment have significantly broadened the scale of
digital security and privacy challenges, the need for an evolution in how these risks are managed.
Effective management of digital security and privacy risk is essential if countries are to realize
the
full economic and social benefits of the digital economy. Establishing higher levels of trust with
users and customers may enable digital services to become more widely accepted and used by
individuals and organizations. Governments play a key role in supporting conditions to build
trust
and complement private sector initiatives.
Trust is essential in situations where uncertainty and interdependence exist (Mayer, 1995), and the digital
environment certainly encapsulates those factors. Today’s digital economy relies on an intricate, hyper-
connected information and communication technology (ICT) ecosystem based on the processing of large
streams of data (“big data”) enabled by sophisticated data analytics and the widespread use of mobile
connectivity .These developments, combined with the emerging use of the Internet to connect computers
and sensor-enabled everyday devices (the “Internet of Things”), add layers of complexity, volatility, and
dependence on infrastructures and processes not fully within single jurisdictional and organizational
control.

There is a need to acknowledge the increased uncertainty that can result from these new
developments and the need for evolution in current digital security risk and privacy-protective
strategies to deal with the emerging new vulnerabilities and threats, while taking into account the
economic and social potential of the digital economy. Various technological solutions to improve
digital security existed and more are being developed. Yet to optimize the economic and social
benefits anticipated from an open digital environment, leaders and decisions makers should no
longer treat digital security risk solely as a technical issue but adopt an economic and social risk
management approach

• Evolution of the Case

By the changing Online interactions with individuals or online retail organizations lead to the
exchange of a large amount of data, collected and analyzed by organizations for marketing and
organization-based decision-making, nowadays people tend to disobey the rule and the digital or
online ethics because new technologies like IoT and AI are changing and developing so rapidly,
so is the risk landscape for the modern workplace. Failure to protect data from cyberattacks and
leaks can lead to financial and reputational damage to your business. BYOD (Bring Your Own
Device) policies, where employees conduct business on their personal devices, also leave
organization vulnerable to security breaches.

 Asking users for permission to collect and retain key pieces of their data
 Asking users for permission to sell the data you’ve collected
 Giving users the right to request their data to be deleted
 Giving users the option to download the data you’ve collected
• Reaction and Conclusion
My reaction and my conclusion about this case study are being responsible on a big data that we
input, also the data privacy and the securing of your information and the data itself. The reason
why some of the accounts in the internet are being attacked by the hacker is because of the
spreading their information through unknown sites.it is very important to know the basic ethics
and how to secure our data privacy through internet. We should keep and protect our information
from the hacker.
