Make a group which consist 10 students and you are expected to develop a deep
understanding about the conceptual background & the real application of the PPA 2011
standard conditions of construction contracts on the titles given below. All groups are thus
required to discuss about the tittles and relate the respective PPA Clauses in order to
justify that you are aware with the conceptual background.

The following guidelines may help you to prepare your project.

1. Claim and dispute

c) identify & discuss causes for construction claims;
d) identify & discuss the basis for construction claims & their remedies;
e) identify & discuss the requirements for a construction claim;
f) broadly discuss the process of claims management;
g) discuss how a construction claim transformed to a construction dispute;
 Disputes Related
a) discuss how a construction claim transformed to a construction dispute;
b) define construction disputes;
c) Identify & discuss causes for construction disputes;
d) Identify construction dispute resolution system

2. Time

 Define time from construction project management perspective;

 Delay Related
a) define & discuss delay;
 b) identify & discuss categories/types of delay;
c) identify & discuss the causes for delay;
d) identify & discuss method of analysis of delay;
e)identify & discuss contractual and/or legal effects of delay on the contractor
and/or on the employer;
 identify & discuss the conceptual and the overall differences and/or similarities
between delay & disruption; and delay claims & disruption claims;

3. Payment

 Define the concept of payment and its importance in the construction industry and
to the contractor

 Discuss delay in payment & remedial rights available to the contractor;
 Advance Payment Related
a) define & discuss the concept of advance payment;
b) discuss the purpose & management of advance payment;
c) discuss the associated obligation of the contractor to secure the advance
payment;
 Interim Payment Related
a) to define & discuss in detail the concept of monthly or progress or interim
payment
 Final Payment Related
a) Define & discuss the concept of final payment;
b) Discuss the process of final payment; its timing;
 Compare the remedies available to the contractor as related to non-payment
under PPA 2011;
