It’s a good idea to change your watch to the local time at your destination to help

*We use get + adjective to talk about a change in state of something. It means “become”.

Airplanes get really cold. ( = After some time on the airplane, you start to feel cold. There
was a change in the temperature, or it became cold.)

My body got adjusted to the time zone difference. ( = After spending time in the
different time zone, I started to feel adjusted. There was a change in your body, or it
became adjusted.)

* Remember to use the form of get in the correct tense (present simple, present continuous, past
simple present perfect, etc.) depending on the time and context.

*MORE EXAMPLES:

The flight attendant is getting really angry at the passengers today.


In the winter it gets dark earlier.
I usually get very tired on airplanes.
I always bring snacks on the airplane because I always get hungry.

EXERCISE I Write get for each sentence + an adjective that fits the context. Remember to use
the form of get in the correct tense.

In the video, you heard an example of another way to use the verb ‘get’...

“Stay hydrated by bringing your own water bottle. You can get the flight attendants
to fill this up for you.”

* We use the structure get (somebody) to do (something) in situations when...

(1) giving a task or responsibility to somebody else

EXAMPLE I got the flight attendant to fill up my water bottle.


(2) arranging / organizing / asking somebody else to do something for us

EXAMPLE I couldn’t pick my mom up at the airport, so I got my brother to do it.



(3) convincing / persuading / tricking somebody to do something to do something for us

EXAMPLE I can only get my brother to fly if it is to some exotic location.

* We also use the structure have (somebody) do (something) for these cases, except number 3
convincing / persuading somebody to do something. In this case, we always use the verb get.

 I had the flight attendant fill up my water bottle.


 I couldn’t pick my mom up at the airport, so I had my brother do it.
I can only have my brother fly if it’s to some exotic location.
