Description

This session is designed for the course participants (CPs) to understand how to differentiate
teaching and learning for mix abilities classroom through listening and speaking, reading, writing
and language arts.

Training outcomes The course participants will be able to:

 plan a lesson for mix abilities pupils
 plan activities that suit the pupils
 prepare materials for the activities

Time 60 minutes

Resources 1. Picture cards (Unit 6 Appendix 5 page 81-82)

2. Word cards (Unit 6 Appendix 8 page 88)
3. 4 Coloured beads for all CPs

Activity 2 Reading

Procedure Pre- Reading

Step 1

1. Trainer conducts a game called ‘Come And Get Me’

2. Divide the group into two.
3. Explain how the game is carried out.
4. Cps take part in the game.

Step 2

1. Trainer and CPs check the answers.

2. Identify and regroup the words according to the sounds ‘ee’ and
‘ai’.
3. Trainer explains how the two graphemes are sounded.
4. CPs practice segmenting all the words.

 Step 3

1. Trainer displays the jazz chant.

2. Trainer chant while clapping according to the tempo.
3. CPs chant together with the trainer.
4. Trainer provides selected CPs with picture flag.
5. Other CPS chant and the selected ones act using the picture
flag.
6. Trainer demonstrates.

Step 4

1. CPs practice the chant in groups.

2. Trainer allocates (10 minutes) for the group before presenting.
3 Every group presents and trainer looks for the best performance.

Step 5

1.Trainer puts up two different charts.

To be done by the acquired group of pupils.

Instructional 1. Trainer assigns CPs to practice blending the words found in the
Language topic learnt..(bee, tree, see, pail, train, queen)
2.CPs are free to use either :
a) onsit rhyme
b) body coda
