ACTIVITY 1.1 DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY OF STATISTICAL SCIENCE


Answer the following questions.
1. What is statistics based on your understanding?
 Statistics is a branch of mathematics which involves collecting, organizing,
summarizing, presenting, analyzing and interpreting data.

2. What are the two division of statistics? Differentiate it.


 Descriptive statistics and Inferential statistics
 Descriptive statistics involves collection, organization, summarization and
presentation of data (COSPAI), while inferential statistics interprets and draws
conclusions from the data.

3. As a student, what is the importance of statistics in your life?


 As a student, making a research is unavoidable and we use statistics in gathering
data on our research also as an education student/ future teacher we can used it on
computing grades.

ACTIVITY 1.2 POPULATION AND SAMPLE


A. Answer the following questions.
1. Differentiate sample from population.
 Population is the entire group under consideration in a situation, while sample is a
subset of the population.

2. State 3 examples of population and 3 examples of sample that you can see in your
vicinity.
 Population: Students who passed Ms. Castro class
 Sample: Top 5 students who passed Ms. Castro class
 Population: Students enrolled in PUPSMB s.y. 2020-2021
 Sample: 300 PUPSMB students who take BSED MT s.y. 2020-2021
 Population: DRV costumers in Pulong Buhangin
 Sample: Top 10 spender on DRV in Pulong Buhangin

B. Solve
1. A researcher wants to make socio-economic survey on 1,300 workers of a shoe
factory. If he allows 10% marginal error, how many works must he take into his sample?
