) Thermal Radiation ( Solar heat gain through windows)

Problem:
A house located in Boulder, Colorado (40° N latitude), has ordinary double-pane
windows with 6-mm-thick and the total window areas are 8, 6, 6, and 4 m^2 on the
south, west, east, and north walls, respectively.
Assumptions: The calculations are performed for an average day in a given
month.
Properties: The shading coefficient of a double pane window with 6-mm thick
glasses is SC = 0.82 (Table 12-5). The incident radiation at different windows at
different times are given as,

Analysis: The solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of the windows is determined
to be SHGC = 0.87×SC.
The rate of solar heat gain is determined from = × ×
,
As the assumptions, properties and analysis explained above, we can now
proceed solving the problem using Microsoft excel.
The process start by defining the different variables and cells in the Visual Basic
for Application (VBA) from the written values in the spreadsheet.
Here, the spreadsheet was labeled as “Heat” and the given properties such as
table of solar incident OF july and january were also defined by its location represented
by initials- N for north, E for east, S for south and W for west. Also, given area to be the
glazing area of the problem.
Solving the total solar heat gain of the houses at July with different time given
above, we need to calculate first the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) . It can be
obtain by multiplying SHGC to the constant SC which has the value of 0.82

As we observe, constant 0.87must be input first before solving the whole problem.
If not, the whole requiring variables will equal to zero.
Upon solving solar gain at different houses, computed SHGC will be then use as
a multiplier as well as the given area which has the values of: N= 4m^2, E=6m2,
S=8m2,w=6m2. The given solar radiation incident on the surface will be taken as qsolar
incident on the working formula.
Upon clicking the button which coded in this spreadsheet, a sequence of
answers from cell C21 to cell C35 will be shown with its unit of Watts(W).
Similarly, the solar heat gain of the house through all of the windows in January
is determined to be

As we observe, the same value of SHGC was used as well as the glazing area. A
sequence of answer also will be shown upon clicking the button of answer from cell F21
to cell F24, units of Wh/day. Labelling the variables was coded as QN for north, QE for
east, QS for south and QW for west.
Afterwards, the total amount of solar heat gain per day for average day can now
be calculated. This is the summation of the resulted value gain from the different houses
through all of the windows in January,
