The K.E.E.N.
Evolving from the Knowledge Worker
The ‘knowledge worker’ is a concept coined by

Peter Drucker in the 1980’s.

The ‘Knowledge Worker’ is significantly different from the
typical Industrial Age worker

The K.E.E.N.
Evolving from the Knowledge Worker
The knowledge worker is at odds with the typical Industrial Age worker.
He/she provides value through their knowledge and the manipulation of
information.

In a sense, the Knowledge Worker is a precursor

of the Fourth Revolution.

The K.E.E.N.
Evolving from the Knowledge Worker

As a concept, the knowledge worker

still:
– Works in a corporation, or a closed
organization
– Sells his knowledge, acquired by high
education

The concept was invented in the

1980’s and does not account for the
role of long distance
interconnectivity

The ‘knowledge worker’ concept still needs to evolve

The K.E.E.N.
Evolving from the Knowledge Worker
The K.E.E.N. is the extrapolation of the Knowledge worker into the
Collaborative Age. It goes beyond the assumptions at the basis of the
knowledge worker.

1- chaos theory and destiny

Chaos theory shows that events are not

entirely determined by the past.
Small events in the present can change
dramatically the future.
Our destiny is not entirely determined.

We can
invent our future !

2- Mind and body operation

Research shows that:

– Mind and body work together as one entity
– We can transform our brain

By controlling our posture and our body activity we

can control our mood and influence the activity of
the brain

– closed vs open postures, dynamic vs low energy postures

– Some exercises like laughing definitely change one’s

mood. See the laughing clubs in India.

better predictor of social
success compared to IQ

can be learned,
practiced
at all ages.
Practice now!

1- Purpose
Identification and attraction

“Efforts and courage are not enough

without purpose and direction.”
John F. Kennedy

What is your purpose ?

When you are on your way, on
your quest, expect rejection
and to have to go on the
less travelled road.
If that’s the case, you are on
the right way to something
GREAT.

Identification and attraction
Attract your purpose.
RECOGNIZE
that it is already –
PRESENT tense partially - in your
life

Be GRATEFUL

Be SERENDIPITOUS

2- Holistic exercise
A continuum from heart to mind

Exercise the body and the mind in a holistic manner

There are a wide diversity of

practices

There is also a full continuum

of practices from the physical
to the spiritual.

Choose your own set of

practices to cover both body &
mind.

3- Deep connection

Today, connection is easy.

Easy?
Deep connection is still as difficult. Even more,
because of constant interruption.

Deep connection takes time.

Active listening.
Presence.
Giving.
These are all skills that can and need to be
practiced.

4- “Mutual learning” leadership

In conventional leadership approaches and styles, the leader shows

the path
– Command and control style
– Scientific leadership style
– Visionary leadership style
There is a relationship between the place in the organization and
leadership possibilities.

This does not work in the Collaborative Age. Why would the formal
leader have the vision just by himself ?

“Mutual learning leadership” is the new

leadership skill of the Collaborative Age.

4- “Mutual learning” leadership

“Mutual learning” leadership is the key to leadership

success in the Collaborative World.

From our industrial Age mindset, it is hard to

understand.

Well implemented, “mutual

learning” leadership can be
extremely rewarding
