routine basis to sustain the spotless working areas
from working problems.
3. Spot electrical danger in situation B, list down ways to eliminate it,

PRACTICE EXERCISE
1. List down at least 5 benefits you might experience from implementing 5 S in your
workplace. Explain each.

1) Reduced delay- problems are immediately obvious as they will

tend to manifest as things being placed where they do not
belong, thus driving people to fix them quicker.
2) Quicker changeovers- set up reduced due to ergonomic layout
and organization of tools and equipment in a clearly labeled and
highly visible manner.
3) Improved quality of performance- the correct tools and
equipment being in place mean the right tools are used for the
job plus the ergonomic workplaces reduces opportunities for
handling damage and the like.
4) Fewer accidents- safety improvements due to the removal of
clutter that creates hazards. A place of everything and
everything in its place. An ergonomic layout that prevent
stressful and dangerous movements such as removing heavy
objects from high or low locations.
5) Inexpensive to implement- it only cost a time to have
improvement of efficiency. It only involves self-discipline to
have a better workplace

you daily habit?

 By doing house chores of course you must short or

remove unnecessary things for me to spot those important
things that need to remain, then after eliminating un used
things I will organize those remaining things according to
its uses and sometimes according to its color sometimes I
am fun doing color coding for me to remember my stuff,
next sweeping those dust and can’t pick up by hands
things to eliminate it then standardized or I will going to
sanitize everything to remove also unseen bacteria or
microorganism and last is sustain or self-discipline where
I’ll make it a habit and maintain it or the cleanliness every
day.

3. Who is responsible for electrical safety in the workplace?

 Employers but also employees in the workplace

4. What safe work practices should be used when working with electricity?

 INSPECT equipment, power cords, and electrical fittings for

damage prior to each use. Repair or replace damaged
equipment.
 SWITCH equipment OFF before connecting them to a power
supply and before adjusting.
 ENSURE that electrical equipment is properly grounded or
double-insulated. The grounded equipment must have an
approved 3-wire cord with a 3-prong plug.
 This plug should be plugged in a properly grounded 3-pole
outlet.
 TEST all electrical equipment for effective grounding with a
continuity tester or a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI)
before use.
 KEEP power cords clear of the equipment during use.
 SUSPEND power cords over aisles or work areas to eliminate
stumbling or tripping hazards.
 COVER open electrical outlets with plastic safety plugs
 CHECK power cords and plugs daily. Discard if worn or
damaged. Any cord that feels more than comfortably warm
should be checked by an electrician.
 ELIMINATE octopus connections.
 PULL THE PLUG, NOT THE CORD.
 USE extension cords with appropriate power wattage ratings
only to temporarily supply power to an area that does not
have a power outlet.
 KEEP power cords away from heat, water, and oil. They can
damage the insulation and cause a shock.

5. Why is fire safety training in the workplace important?

 For a reason that fire safety training can cover how to

response in the event of fire alarms, and where the safety
assembly points is. Employees who undergo training will
know not only where they are meant to go, but the safest
routes they can take; they know how to operate exit
devices, such as fire doors, basic knowledge of operating
fire extinguishers and other ways of preventing a blaze
from spreading further. It provides knowledge and skills.

6. What are good fire safety housekeeping practices?

 keeping your workplace tidy and having a good standard of

housekeeping
 regularly removing combustible waste, including accumulations
of dust
 keeping ignition sources away from combustible material or
flammable liquids and gases
 keeping use of flammable liquids to a minimum and
closing containers when not in use.
Application

Create a poster slogan promoting ways to stay safe in the kitchen and discuss
why kitchen safety is important.
“Kitchen safety is important for a reason that it reduces or eliminate
any forms of hazards and accidents that may arise in the kitchen.
Accordingly, kitchen is the number one dangerous place. It has the
potential to cause burns, cuts, slips and falls whenever there is a
disregard of following the safety precautionary measures. Kitchen
safety is important, is because there are many hazard in the kitchen
occur like burn by hot water or hot machine, slipping by wet dish
washing area and many more. For me it is very important especially to
food industry because they are serving food to public and the food
being served is consume by the number of people therefore 50% of
public health vary from our kitchen personnel that working of food
chain. This is to sustain the best quality of our kitchen without the
existence of any accidents. Practicing safety in the kitchen enables
everyone to do the same. It encourages others to equip themselves
the necessary cleaning procedures and safety practices upon
sustaining a safety kitchen. Health safety comes from the kitchen
because we have food contamination that exist when our kitchen are
dirty and worst is it might cause serious ill of people. It is in the
kitchen where we prepare for our food to eat. Through kitchen safety,
there will be no contamination on our foods and it gives us
confidence and assurance to consume a healthy foods. Not just in our
foods, as what my slogan says, “TIDY KITCHEN WILL KEEP AWAY
THE PAIN”. This refers that if the kitchen was clean properly, the
equipment are organized and arrange, tools are not scattered, there is
no left over materials, no trash left on the table, the sink is remain
empty after use, this will eliminate the hazards that might happen.
Once the kitchen is safe, rest assured that you cannot experience a
serious injury.”
REFLECTION :
This module refreshes our idea on how we should maintain a safe and
clean kitchen. This is very applicable to everyone of us to practice a
good cleaning procedures and safety precautionary measures.
Without these guidelines and training, we cannot perceive useful
knowledge and skills to be utilized in various kitchen context.
Especially when working with a dangerous equipment and materials,
we should be more vigilant on any danger visible to us. Know how to
analyze situations whether it is beneficial or hazardous to us. Keeping
our safety and health as key priorities when working in the kitchen. It
reflects the sense on how to properly organized our working areas to
create more productive results. Through this, various forms of
hazards are recognized then eliminated. We just have to make it as
our routine habits which is keeping ourselves safety by starting on
the practices applied in different home situations or any other places.
