BALANCING BUILT ENVIRONMENT: A HYBRID DESIGN APPROACH

The energy efficiency can be achieved through reducing the heating demand of the building, using
energy efficiency building envelope, building materials and also adjoining active system to these
passive solution. The heating demand of building can be reduced through passive solar
technologies and energy efficient equipment. The cooling demand can be reduced through passive
design of building, while the use of energy efficient devices can helps to reduce the energy
consumption in equipment i.e. Hybrid System.

2.2.3. Potential Hybrid System

The climatic condition of Nepal is much more suitable to implement both passive and active
system to reach a significant reduction of energy demand. Most of the general hybrid system
are being demonstrated through practical application in Nepal, yet it became a necessity to
explore much reliable design solution. Through the study, to reduce thermal fluctuation and
maintain comfort zone inside, there are three major keys to be considered: building material,
building envelop and ventilation. Following mentioned hybrid strategies have higher potential
in context of Nepal, due to its easy application and manufacture, simplicity in design and them
being cost effective.
