Electronic Music

The capacity of electronic machines such as synthesizers, amplifiers, tape

recorders, and loudspeakers to create different sounds was put to creative use by 20th
century composers like Edgard Varese, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Mario Davidovsky.
Electronic devices such as early cassette tape recorders; players for compact discs
(CDs), video compact discs (VCDs), and digital video discs (DVDs); MP3 and MP4
players; the ipod; karaoke player; mobile and android phones; and synthesizers have
been increasingly used for creating and recording music that is meant to be added to
or to replace acoustical sounds made with traditional instruments. Music that uses tape
recorder is called musique concrete or concrete music.

Edgard Varese’s use of new instruments and electronic resources earned him the
title “Father of Electronic Music.” In 1983, the reproduction of music via a succession
of formats including vinyl records, compact cassettes and compact disc was introduced.

Sound recording was a major influence on the development of popular music

genres, because it enabled recordings of songs and bands to be inexpensively and
widely distributed nationwide or even, for some artists worldwide.
In the mid-1990s, the digital audio recordings, and the transmission or broadcast
of audio recordings of music performances on radio, of video recordings or live
performances on television, and by the 1990s, of audio and video recordings via the
Internet, using file sharing of digital audio recordings, gave individuals from a wide
range of socioeconomic classes access to a diverse selection of high-quality music
performances by artists from around the world. In 1960, is the fusion of jazz and rock
music to create jazz fusion. Musician used new electric, electronic and digital
instruments and musical devices.

Aleatory Music or Chance Music refers to style in which the piece sounds
difference at every performance because of the random techniques of production,
including the use of ring modulators or natural elements that become a part of the music.
Most of the sounds emanate from the surroundings, both natural and man-made, such
as honking cars, rustling leaves, blowing wind, dripping water, or a ringing a phone.
John Cage challenged the very idea of music by manipulating musical instruments in
order to achieved new sounds.
