Importance of Joshn Kabir- Pdf .. It has been mentioned in the book, Balad al-Amin and the Misbah
of Kafa`mi that Imam Àli ibn al-Husain Sayyid as-Sajjidin (prayers be upon him) related from his father
from his grandfather the Prophet of Allah (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) that this
supplication was taught by the Angel Jibra’il (prayers be upon him) to the Prophet (blessings of Allah be
upon him and his family) during one of the battles.
It was in one of the wars that the Prophet (blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) had taken part
in which he had a very heavy and expensive coat of armor on to protect himself. It is related that the
coat was soheavy that it was hurting the body of the Prophet (prayers of Allah be upon him and his
family). In this state,the Angel Jibra’il (prayers be upon him) came to the Prophet (blessings of Allah be
upon him and his family)and said: “O’ Muhammad! Your Lord conveys his salutations to you and has said
to take this coat of armor (Jawshan)and to recite it as this is a protection for you and your Ummah (For

Allah, the All-
merciful, the All-
bis-mil-lahir-rah- manir-rahem ِ ‫ح َم‬

compassionate
ِ ‫ال َّر‬
ِ ‫حي م‬
‫( ال َّل ُه َّم إِنِّي‬1)
(1) O Allah, verily I
beseech You in Your
allahumma in-ne as-aluka bis-
mika yal-lah
َ ‫اس ِم‬
‫ك‬ ْ ‫ك ِب‬ َ ‫سأ ُل‬ ْ َ‫أ‬
name: O Allah,
َُّ‫يَا اهلل‬
O Most Merciful, O ‫ح َم ُن يَا‬ ْ ‫يَا َر‬
Most ya rahmanu ya rahem
Compassionate, ‫حي ُم‬ِ ‫َر‬
‫يَا َك ِري ُم يَا‬
O Most Generous, O ya karemu ya muqem
Self-Subsisting,
‫م ِقي ُم‬ ُ
‫ظي ُم يَا‬ ِ ‫ع‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O Greatest, O
ya àëmu ya qadem
Eternal,
‫َق ِدي ُم‬
O All-Knowing, O ‫علِي ُم يَا‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya àlemu ya halemu ya hakem
Forbearing, O Wise.
‫ح ِكي ُم‬ َ ‫حلِي ُم يَا‬ َ

there is no god but subhanaka ya la ilaha illa anta

O Elevator of rank, ya rafia'd-darajat

O Best of helpers, ya khayran-nasiren ‫خ ْي َر‬ َ ‫يَا‬

O Best of rulers, ya khayral-hakimen

O Best of providers, ya khayrar-raziqen

Dischargers,

benefactors.

You, ‫ت‬ َ ْ‫ال أن‬ ّ ‫إ َل َه إ‬
َ ْ‫غو‬
‫صنا ِم َن‬ ْ ‫خ ِّل‬ َ
Protect us from the
Fire, O Lord.
khallisna minan-nari ya rabb .‫ب‬ ِّ ‫النّا ِر يا َر‬
‫من َّل ُه‬ َ ‫( يَا‬4)
(4) O He, to Whom
is all glory and
ya mal-lahul-iìz-zatu wal-
jamal
ُ‫ا ْل ِعزَّة‬
virtue,
‫ال‬ ُ ‫ج َم‬ َ ‫َوا ْل‬
‫من َّل ُه‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O He, to Whom is
all might and
ya mal-lahul-qud-ratu wal-
kamal
ُ‫ا ْل ُق ْد َرة‬
perfection,
‫ال‬ ُ ‫َوا ْل َك َم‬
O He, to Whom is ‫ك‬ُ ‫امل ُ ْل‬
ْ ‫من َّل ُه‬ َ ‫يَا‬
all dominion and ya mal-lahul-mul-ku wal-jalal
sublimity, ‫الجالَ ُل‬ َ ‫َو‬
O He, Who is great ya man huwal-kaberul- َ‫هو‬ ُ ‫م ْن‬ َ ‫يَا‬
above all, mutaàal
‫املُتَ َعاِل‬ ْ ‫ا ْل َك ِبي ُر‬
َr‫ش‬ ِ ْ ‫من‬ ُ ‫يَا‬
O He, Who creates
heavy clouds,
ya mun-shias-sahabilth-thiqal ‫اب‬ِ ‫ح‬ َ ‫الس‬ َّ
‫الث ِّ َقاِل‬
O He, Who is the َ‫هو‬ ُ ‫م ْن‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya man huwa shadedul-mihal
most powerful,
‫حاِل‬ َ ِ‫امل‬ ْ ‫ش ِدي ُد‬ َ
َ‫هو‬ ُ ‫م ْن‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O He, Who is quick
to reckon,
ya man huwa sareu'l-hisab ُ‫س ِريع‬ َ
‫اب‬ ِ ‫س‬ َ ‫ح‬ ِ ‫ا ْل‬
O He, Who metes َ‫هو‬ ُ ‫م ْن‬ َ ‫يَا‬
out the severest
punishment,
ya man huwa shadedul-iìqab
‫اب‬ِ ‫ش ِدي ُد ا ْل ِع َق‬ َ
‫م ْن ِعنْ َد ُه‬
O He, with Whom is
the excellent reward,
ya man iìndahu hus-nuth-
thawab َ ‫يَا‬
ِ ‫س ُن الثَّو‬
‫َاب‬ ْ ‫ح‬ ُ
O He, with Whom is ‫م ْن ِعنْ َدهُ أ ُ ُّم‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya man iìndahu ummul-kitab
the Original Book.
ِ َ‫ا ْل ِكت‬
‫اب‬
You, َ ْ‫ال أن‬
‫ت‬ ّ ‫إ َل َه إ‬
[I beseech you for] al-ghawth al-ghawth al- ‫ث‬ َ ْ‫غو‬ َ ‫ث ال‬ َ ْ‫غو‬ َ ‫ال‬

Protect us from the ‫صنا ِم َن‬ ْ ‫خ ِّل‬َ
Fire, O Lord.

(5) O Allah, Verily I
allahumma in-ne as-aluka bis- ‫( ال َّل ُه َّم إِنِّي‬5)

name:

O Charitable One, O ‫ن يَا‬ ُ ‫حنَّا‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya han-nanu ya man-nan
Benefactor,
ُ ‫منَّا‬
‫ن‬ َ
‫ن يَا‬ ُ ‫يَا َد َّيا‬
O Judge, O Proof, ya day-yanu ya bur-han
ُ ‫ها‬
‫ن‬ َ ‫ُب ْر‬
O Sovereign, O ‫ن يَا‬ُ ‫س ْلطَا‬ ُ ‫يَا‬
Approver, ya sul-tanu ya ri¨wan
ُ ‫ضوَا‬
‫ن‬ ْ ‫ِر‬
‫ن يَا‬ُ ‫غفْ َرا‬ُ ‫يَا‬

O Forgiver, O
Elevated One, O
ya ghuf-ranu ya sub-hanu ya
mus-taàan ‫ن‬ُ ‫حا‬ َ ْ ‫سب‬

Helper,
ُ ‫ستَ َعا‬
‫ن‬ ْ ‫م‬ ُ ‫يَا‬
O Holder of
blessings and ya dhal-man-ni wal-bayan ‫امل َ ِّن‬
ْ ‫يَا ذَا‬
manifestation.
ِ ‫َوا ْلبَيَا‬
‫ن‬
َ ْ‫غو‬
Protect us from the ‫صنا ِم َن‬ ْ ‫خ ِّل‬

Fire, O Lord.

(6) O He before
Whose greatness
ya man tawadhaà kul-lu
shayil-li-a'ämatihi ‫َاضعَ ُك ُّل‬ َ ‫تَو‬
everything bows,
‫شيٍْء ِّل َعظَ َم ِت ِه‬ َ
‫م ْن‬َ ‫يَا‬
O He before Whose
power everything
ya manis-taslama kul-lu shayil-
li-qud-ratih ‫استَس َل َم ُك ُّل‬ ْ
submits,
‫شيٍْء ِّل ُق ْد َر ِت ِه‬ َ
O He before Whose
ya man dhal-la kul-lu shayil-li- ‫من ذَ َّل ُك ُّل‬ َ ‫يَا‬
might overshadows
everything,
iìz-zatih
‫شيٍْء ِّل ِعزَّ ِت ِه‬ َ
َ‫ضع‬ َ ‫خ‬ َ ‫م ْن‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O He before Whose
awesomeness ya man khadhaà kul-lu shayil- ‫شيٍْء‬ َ ‫ُك ُّل‬
everything is li-haybatih
humbled, ‫ِّل َهيْبَ ِت ِه‬
‫م ْن انْ َقا َد‬
َ ‫يَا‬
O He before Whose
fearsomeness
ya manin-qada kul-lu shayim-
min khash-yatih ‫م ْن‬ ِّ ‫شيٍْء‬ َ ‫ُك ُّل‬
everything yields,
‫شيَ ِت ِه‬ ْ ‫خ‬ َ
ِ ‫ش َّق َق‬
‫ت‬ َ َ‫من ت‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O He before Whose
terribleness
ya man tashaq-qaqatil-jibalu
mim-makhafatih ‫ال ِمن‬ ُ َ ‫جب‬ ِ ‫ا ْل‬
mountains shake,
‫خافَ ِت ِه‬ َ ‫م‬ َّ
ِ ‫م‬
‫ت‬ َ ‫من َقا‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O He before Whose
command the
ya man qamatis-samawatu bi-
am-rih ُ ‫الس َما َو‬
‫ات‬ َّ
heavens are raised,
‫م ِر ِه‬ ْ َ ‫ِبأ‬
O He through
ِ ‫استَ َق َّر‬
‫ت‬ ْ ‫م ْن‬ َ ‫يَا‬
Whose permission
in the earths are
ya manis-taqar-ratil-aradhuna
biidhnih ‫ن‬َ ‫ضو‬ ُ ‫األ َ َر‬
secured,
‫ِب ِإذْ ِن ِه‬
O He Whose glory
ya may-yusab-bihur-raà-du ُ‫سبِّح‬ َ ُّ‫من ي‬ َ ‫يَا‬
the thunder
proclaims,
biham-dih
‫ح ْم ِد ِه‬ َ ‫ع ُد ِب‬ ْ ‫ال َّر‬
‫من ال‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O He Who is never ya mal-la ya`tade àla ah-li ‫ع َلى‬ َ ‫يَ ْعتَ ِدي‬
cruel to his subjects. mam-lakatih
‫م ْم َل َك ِت ِه‬ َ ‫ه ِل‬ ْ َ‫أ‬

Fire, O Lord.

(7) O Forgiver of

ya ghafiral-khataya
sins,
‫خطَايَا‬ َ ‫ا ْل‬
O Dispeller of ‫ف‬َ ‫اش‬ ِ ‫يَا َك‬
ya kashifal-balaya
tribulations,
‫ا ْلبَالَيَا‬
‫منْتَ َهى‬ ُ ‫يَا‬
O Aim of hopes, ya mun-tahar-rajaya
‫جايَا‬ َ ‫ال َّر‬
O Giver of abundant ‫ج ِز َل‬ ْ ‫م‬ ُ ‫يَا‬
ya muj-zilal-a'taya
gifts,
‫ا ْل َعطَايَا‬
‫ب‬َ ‫اه‬ ِ ‫يَا َو‬
O Bestower of
ya wahibal-hadaya
bounties,
‫ا ْل َه َدايَا‬
O Provider of
creatures,
ya raziqal-baraya ‫يَا َرا ِزقَ ا ْلبَ َرايَا‬
‫اضي‬ ِ ‫يَا َق‬
O Judge of destinies, ya qadhiyal-manaya
‫املَنَايَا‬ ْ
َ‫امع‬ ِ ‫س‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O Hearer of
complaints, ya samia'ash-shakaya ‫الش َكايَا‬ َّ
َ ‫اع‬
‫ث‬ ِ ‫يَا َب‬
O Resurrector of
ya baiìthal-baraya
creatures,
‫ا ْلبَ َرايَا‬
َ‫مطْلِق‬ ُ ‫يَا‬
O Freer of captives. ya mut-liqal-usara
‫سا َرى‬ َ ُ ‫األ‬
Praise be to You, ‫ك َيا ال‬َ َ ‫حا ن‬ َ ْ ‫سب‬ ُ

Fire, O Lord.

(8) O He, to Whom ‫( يَا ذَا‬8)
is due all praise and ya dhal-ham-di wath-thana-i
adoration, ِ َ‫ح ْم ِد َوالثَّن‬
‫اء‬ َ ‫ا ْل‬
O He, Who holds all ‫خ ِر‬ ْ َ‫يَا ذَا ا ْلف‬
ya dhal-fakh-ri wal-baha-i
pride and eminence, ِ ‫َوا ْلبَ َه‬
‫اء‬
O He, Who holds all ‫ج ِد‬ْ َ ‫امل‬
ya dhal-maj-di was-sana-i
honour and rank, ِ َ‫السن‬
‫اء‬ َّ ‫َو‬
O He, Who makes ‫يَا ذَا ا ْل َع ْه ِد‬
promises and ya dhal-a'h-di wal-wafa-i
honours them, ِ َ‫َوا ْلوَف‬
‫اء‬
O He, Who pardons
ِ‫يَا ذَا ا ْل َعفْو‬
and is content,
ya dhal-a'f-wi war-ridha
ِ ‫ض‬
‫اء‬ َ ‫َوال ِّر‬
O He, Who holds all ‫امل َ ِّن‬

abundance and ya dhal-man-ni wal-a'ta-i
provides, ِ َ‫َوا ْل َعط‬
‫اء‬
O He, Who holds ‫ص ِل‬ْ َ‫يَا ذَا ا ْلف‬
decision and ya dhal-fas-li wal-qadha-i
judgement, ‫اء‬ ِ ‫ض‬ َ ‫َوا ْل َق‬
O He, Who is
ِّ‫يَا ذَا ا ْل ِعز‬
ya dhal-iìz-zi wal-baqa
glorious and eternal, ِ ‫َوا ْلبَ َق‬
‫اء‬
O He, Who is liberal
ِ ‫ج‬
‫ود‬ ُ ‫يَا ذَا ا ْل‬
and munificent, ya dhal-judi was-sakha-i
ِ ‫خ‬
‫اء‬ َ ‫الس‬ َّ ‫َو‬
O He, Who holds all ِ
‫اآلالء‬ ‫يَا ذَا‬
blessings and ya dhal-a-la-i wan-naà-ma-i
bounties, ِ ‫َوالنَّ ْع َم‬
‫اء‬
َ ْ‫غو‬
Fire, O Lord.

(9) O Allah, verily I

ya rafiu' ya saniu'
O Fashioner,

O Benefiter O ‫افعُ يَا‬ ِ َ‫يَا ن‬
ya nafiu' ya samiu'
Hearer,
ُ‫امع‬ ِ ‫س‬ َ
‫امعُ يَا‬ِ ‫ج‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O Aggregator, O
ya jamiu' ya shafiu'
Intercessor,

O Magnanimous, O ‫اسعُ يَا‬ ِ ‫يَا َو‬
ya wasiu' ya musiu'
Increaser.

every fashioned ya sania' kul-li ms-nuiìn
thing, ٍ ‫مصنُو‬
‫ع‬ ْ ‫ُك ِّل‬
O Creator of every ‫خاِلقَ ُك ِّل‬ َ ‫يَّا‬
ya khaliqa kul-li makh-luq
created thing,
ٍ‫خ ُلوق‬ ْ ‫م‬
َ
O Provider for every
‫يَّا َرا ِزقَ ُك ِّل‬
ya raziqa kul-li marzuq
needy thing, ٍ‫م ْرزُوق‬ َ
O Sovereign over all ‫ك ُك ِّل‬َ ‫ماِل‬ َ ‫يَّا‬

ya malika kul-li mam-luk
subjects,
‫وك‬ٍ ‫م ْم ُل‬ َ
O Dispeller of every ‫ف ُك ِّل‬ َ ‫اش‬ ِ ‫يَّا َك‬
ya kashifa kul-li mak-rub
hardship,
‫وب‬ٍ ‫م ْك ُر‬ َ
O Comforter of ‫يَّا فَاِرجَ ُك ِّل‬
ya farija kul-li mahum
every griever,
ٍ ‫م ْه ُموم‬ َ
O Merciful to every ‫اح َم ُك ِّل‬ ِ ‫يَّا َر‬
ya rahima kul-li mar-hum
sufferer,
ٍ ‫حوم‬ ُ ‫م ْر‬ َ
O Helper of
ya nasira kul-li makh-dhul ‫اص َر ُك ِّل‬ ِ َ‫يَّا ن‬
everything forsaken,
‫ول‬ٍ ُ‫خذ‬ ْ ‫م‬ َ
O Concealer of ‫سا ِت َر ُك ِّل‬ َ ‫يَّا‬
every blemished ya satira kul-li maà-yub
thing, ‫وب‬ ٍ ُ‫م ْعي‬ َ
O Shelter for every ‫جأ َ ُك ِّل‬ َ ‫م ْل‬ َ ‫يَّا‬
ya mal-ja kul-li mat-rud
exile. ٍ ‫مطْ ُر‬
‫ود‬ َ
َ ْ‫غو‬
‫صنا ِم َن‬ ْ ‫خ ِّل‬َ
Protect us from the
Fire, O Lord.
.‫ب‬ ِّ ‫النّا ِر يا َر‬
(11) O Provider in ‫ع َّد ِتي‬ُ ‫( يَا‬11)

ya u'd-date iìnda shid-date
my hardship,
‫ش َّد ِتي‬ ِ ‫ِعنْ َد‬
O Source of Hope in ‫ائي ِعنْ َد‬ ِ ‫ج‬ َ ‫يَا َر‬
ya raja-e iìnda musebate
my misfortune,
‫صيبَ ِتي‬ ِ ‫م‬ُ
O Companion in my ‫سي‬ ِ ‫مؤ ِْن‬ ُ ‫يَا‬
ya mu-nise iìnda wah-shate
isolation,

O Master of peace

and security,

ya dhal-qud-si was-sub-han
above all defects,

ya dhal-hik-mati wal-bayan
and manifestation,

O Master of mercy ‫ح َم ِة‬ ْ ‫يَا ذَا ال َّر‬
ya dhar-rah-mati war-ridhwan
and satisfaction,

O Master of ‫ج ِة‬َّ ‫ح‬ ُ ‫يَا ذَا ا ْل‬
ya dhal-huj-jati wal-bur-han
argument and proof,

‫ن‬ َ ‫َوا ْلبُ ْر‬
O Master of ‫يَا ذَا ا ْل َعظَ َم ِة‬
grandeur and ya dhal-a'ämati was-sul-tan
sovereignty, ِ ‫الس ْلطَا‬

O Master of ‫يَا ذَا ال َّرأْفَ ِة‬
kindness and ya dhar-ra-fati wal-mus-taàan
succour, ‫ن‬ِ ‫ستَ َعا‬ ْ ُ ‫امل‬ ْ ‫َو‬
O Master of pardon ِ‫يَا ذَا ا ْل َعفْو‬
ya dhal-a'f-wi wal-ghuf-ran
and forgiveness.

O Greatest in His ‫هوَ ِفي‬ ُ ‫م ْن‬ َ ‫يَّا‬

grandeur,

O Magnanimous to

him who places his
hope in Him,

O He Who is Wise
ya man huwa fe sun-iìhi ‫هوَ ِفي‬ ُ ‫م ْن‬ َ ‫يَّا‬
over what He has
fashioned,

O He Who is Subtle ya man huwa fe hik-matihi ‫هوَ ِفي‬ ُ ‫م ْن‬ َ ‫يَّا‬
in his Wisdom, latef

in His Kindness.

Whom no hope is
entertained save by
ya mal-la yur-ja illa fadhluh َّ‫جى إِال‬ َ ‫يُ ْر‬

O He, from Whom ‫سأ َ ُل‬ْ ُ‫من ال ي‬ َ ‫يَا‬
nothing is begged ya mal-la yus-alu illa àf-wuh
save His Pardon, ُ‫عفْوُه‬ َ َّ‫إِال‬
O He, of Whom ‫من ال يُنْظَ ُر‬ َ ‫يَا‬
nothing is seen save ya mal-la yun-äru illa bir-ruh
His Goodness, ُ‫إِالَّ ِب ُّره‬
O He, from Whom
nothing is feared ya mal-la yukhafu illa àd-luh َّ‫اف إِال‬ ُ ‫خ‬ َ ُ‫ي‬
save His Justice,
‫ع ْد ُل ُه‬ َ
O He, Whose ‫من ال يَ ُدو ُم‬ َ ‫يَا‬
sovereignty alone of ya mal-la yadumu illa mul-kuh
eternal,

has true majesty,

blessings extend to

O He, Whose Wrath

‫ت‬ َ ‫م ْن‬ َ ‫يَا‬
is surpassed by His
Mercy,
ya man sabaqat rah-matuhu
ghadhabah ‫ضبَ ُه‬ َ ‫غ‬ َ ‫ح َمتُ ُه‬ ْ ‫َر‬
O He, Whose
َ ‫حا‬
‫ط‬ َ َ ‫م ْن أ‬ َ ‫يَا‬
knowledge
encompasses

everything,

without equal,

O He Who does not
call to severe ya mal-lam yuakhidh bial- ِ ‫يُؤ‬

account for sins, jarerah
‫ج ِري َر ِة‬ َ ‫ِبا ْل‬
O He, Who does not ِ ‫من َّل ْم َي ْه ِت‬

disclose the disgrace ya mal-lam yah-tikis-sit-r
of his servants, ‫الستْ َر‬ ِّ

O He, Who is the
ya àëmal-a'f-wi
best forgiver,

ya hasanat-tajawuz
overlooks errancy,

forgiveness extends ya wasia'l-magh-firah

O He, Whose Hands
are stretched forth in ya basital-yadayni bilr-rih-mah ِ ْ‫ا ْليَ َدي‬

mercy,

O He, Who knows ‫ب ُك ِّل‬ َ ‫اح‬ ِ ‫ص‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya sahiba kul-li naj-wa
all secrets,
‫جوًى‬ ْ َ‫ن‬
O He, to Whom all ‫منْتَ َهى ُك ِّل‬ ُ ‫يَّا‬

O He besides Whom

ya man kul-lu shay-in halikun
illa waj-hah

perishable.

place of protection ya mal-la mafzaà illa ilayh
except with Him, ‫إِالَّ إِ َليْ ِه‬
O He—there is no
right path except ‫من ال‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya mal-la maq-sada illa ilayh
that which leads to
Him, ‫ص َد إِالَّ إِ َليْ ِه‬ َ ‫م ْق‬ َ
O He-there is no
shelter against Him
ya mal-la manja minhu illa
ilayhi
َّ‫نجىً ِمنْ ُه إِال‬ َ ‫م‬ َ
but with Him,
O He-there is no ‫ب‬ ُ ‫غ‬ َ ‫من ال يُ ْر‬ َ ‫يَا‬
inclination towards ya mal-la yur-ghabu illa ilayhi
anyone except Him, ‫يه‬ِ ‫إِالَّ إ َل‬
O He-there is no
ya mal-la haw-la wa-la qu- ‫حو َْل‬ َ ‫من ال‬ َ ‫يَا‬
strength and vigour
but from Him,
wata illa bih
‫َوال ُقوَّةَ إِالَّ ِب ِه‬
O He-none is ‫من ال‬ َ ‫يَا‬
invoked for help but ya mal-la yus-taàanu illa bih

O He-trust is not
reposed in anyone

O He-none is
worshipped except

O He Who removes ‫ف‬

ya may-yak-shiful-bal-wa
misfortunes,
‫ا ْلبَ ْلوَى‬
O He Who ُ‫س َمع‬ ْ َّ‫من ي‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya may-yas-mau'n-naj-wa
overhears secrets,
‫جوَى‬ ْ َّ‫الن‬
O He Who rescues
ُ‫من يُّنْ ِقذ‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya may-yun-qidhul-ghar-qa
the drowning,
‫غ ْر َقى‬َ ‫ا ْل‬
‫نجي‬ِ ُّ‫من ي‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O He Who saves the
‫ا ْل َه ْل َكى‬
ya may-yunjil-hal-ka
distressed,
O He Who restores ‫ش ِفي‬ ْ َّ‫من ي‬ َ ‫يَا‬

ya may-yash-fil-mar-dha
the sick to health,
‫ضى‬ َ ‫امل َ ْر‬ ْ
O He who makes ‫ك‬َ ‫ح‬َ ‫ض‬ ْ َ ‫م ْن أ‬ َ ‫يَا‬
[His slaves] laugh ya man adhhaka wa ab-ka
and weep, ‫َوأَبْ َكى‬
O He Who causes to ‫ات‬َ ‫م‬ َ َ ‫م ْن أ‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya man amata wa ah-ya
dies and calls to life,
‫حيَا‬ ْ َ ‫َوأ‬
َ‫خ َلق‬ َ ‫م ْن‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O He Who has
created pairs of male
ya man khalaqaz-zaw-jaynidh-
dhakara wal-un-tha ‫ني الذَّ َك َر‬ ِ ْ ‫ج‬ َ ‫الزَّ ْو‬
and female.

ya man fil-bar-ri wal-bah-ri
‫ِفي ا ْلبَ ِّر‬
course is on land sabeluh
and in water,
‫س ِبي ُل ُه‬ َ ‫ح ِر‬ ْ َ‫َوا ْلب‬

O He Whose signs
‫من ِفي‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya man fil-a-faqi a-yatuh
are in the universe,
‫اآلفَاقِ آيَاتُ ُه‬
O He in Whose ‫من ِفي‬ َ ‫يَا‬
signs are undeniable ya man fil-a-yati bur-hanuh
proofs, ‫هانُ ُه‬ َ ‫ات ُب ْر‬ ِ ‫اآل َي‬
O He Whose; might ‫من ِفي‬ َ ‫يَا‬
is exhibited in ya man fel-mamati qud-ratuh
causing death, ‫ات ُق ْد َرتُ ُه‬ ِ ‫امل َ َم‬ ْ
O He Whose lesson ‫من ِفي‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya man fil-quburi iìb-ratuh
is in graves,
‫ا ْل ُقبُو ِر ِعبْ َرتُ ُه‬
O He Whose
kingdom will be on ‫من ِفي‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya man fil-qiyamati mul-kuh
the Day of
Judgement, ‫م ْل ُك ُه‬ ُ ‫م ِة‬ َ ‫ا ْل ِقيَا‬
O He in Whose
reckoning of deeds ya man fil-hisabi haybatuh ِ ‫س‬
‫اب‬ َ ‫ح‬ ِ ‫ا ْل‬
is His dread,
‫ه ْيبَتُ ُه‬ َ
O He in Whose ‫من ِفي‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya man fil-mezani qadha-uh
balance is His order,

paradise is the place ya man fil-jan-nati thawabuh

O He Whose hell is ‫من ِفي‬ َ ‫يَا‬
the place of ya man fin-nari iìqabuh
chastisement. ‫النَّا ِر ِع َقا ُب ُه‬
there is no god but

O He-sinners take ya man ilayhi yafzau'l- ‫م ْن إِ َليْ ِه‬ َ ‫يَا‬
shelter with Him, mudhnibun
َ ‫املُذْ ِنبُو‬
‫ن‬ ْ ‫ع‬ ُ َ‫يَفْز‬
‫م ْن إِ َليْ ِه‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O He-the repentant
return to Him,
ya man ilayhi yaq-sidul-
munebun ‫ص ُد‬ ِ ‫يَ ْق‬
َ ‫امل ُ ِنيبُو‬
‫ن‬ ْ
O He-the pious
incline towards
ya man ilayhi yar-ghabuz-
zahidun ‫ب‬ُ ‫غ‬ َ ‫يَ ْر‬
Him,

‫ن‬ ِ َّ‫الز‬
O He-the
confounded seek
ya man ilayhi yal-jaul-
mutahay-yirun

shelter in Him,

‫م ْن ِب ِه‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O He-the desirous

ya mam bihi yas-ta-nisul-
have affliction for muredun ‫س‬ ْ َ‫ي‬
Him,

O He-lovers are
proud of Him,
ya mam bihi yaf-takhirul-

O He-transgressors
have agreed for His
ya man fe àf-wihi yat-mau'l-

forgiveness,

O He-those who are
sure in faith receive
consolation from
ya man ilayhi yas-kunul-
muqinun ‫س ُك ُن‬ ْ َ‫ي‬
Him,

O He-those who
trust Him rely on

ya khaliqan ghayra makh-luq
created,

O Master and not ‫غيْ َر‬ َ ً ‫ماِلكا‬ َ ‫يَّا‬
ya malikan ghayra mam-luk
the slave,
‫وك‬ ٍ ‫م ْم ُل‬ َ
O All-Dominant ‫غيْ َر‬ َ ً ‫اهرا‬ ِ ‫يَّا َق‬
who is not ya qahiran ghayra maq-hur
dominated, ‫م ْق ُهو ٍر‬ َ
O Exalter and the ‫غيْ َر‬ َ ً ‫افعا‬ ِ ‫يَّا َر‬
ya rafia'an ghayra mar-fuiìn
Exalted,
‫ع‬ ٍ ‫م ْرفُو‬ َ
O Protector who ‫غيْ َر‬ َ ً ‫افظا‬ ِ ‫ح‬ َ ‫يَّا‬
ya hafiän ghayra mah-fuïn
needs no protection,
‫وظ‬ٍ ُ‫حف‬ ْ ‫م‬ َ
O Helper who needs ‫غيْ َر‬ َ ً ‫اصرا‬ ِ َ‫يَّا ن‬
ya nasiran ghayra man-sur
no help,
‫صو ٍر‬ ُ ْ ‫من‬ َ
‫غيْ َر‬ َ ً ‫اهدا‬ ِ ‫ش‬ َ ‫يَّا‬
O Witness who is
ya shahidan ghayra gha-ib
not absent,

O Near who is not
distant.

O Light of all lights, ya nura kul-li nur ‫يَا نُو َر ُك ِّل نُو ٍر‬
O Light that
precedes in ‫يَّا نُورا ً َقبْ َل‬
ya nuran qab-la kul-li nur
existence every

O Light that will
‫يَّا نُورا ً بَ ْع َد‬

survive all lights,

control extends to

bounties cannot be
counted by His
ya mal-la yuh-sil-iìbadu

slaves,

ya mal-la tab-lughul-khala-iqu
creatures cannot

grandeur cannot be ya mal-la tud-rikul-af-hamu ‫من ال تُ ْد ِر ُك‬ َ ‫يَا‬
comprehended by
the intellect,

reversed by His

is the gift and none ya mal-la àta-a illa àta-uh

Whom is the return

of every matter,

O, Whose Kindness
is evident in
ya man a¨hara fe kul-li shayil-

best everything
which He has
ya man ah-sana kul-la shay-in
khal-qah ‫شيٍْء‬ َ ‫ُك َّل‬
created,
‫خ َل َق ُه‬ َ
‫ف‬َ ‫ص َّر‬ َ َ‫من ت‬ َ ‫يَا‬
O He, Whose
authority is wielded
ya man tasar-rafa fil-khala-iqi
qud-ratuh ِ‫الئق‬ ِ ‫خ‬ َ ‫ِفي ا ْل‬
over all creatures.

seeking livelihood, sha

ya man hakama bitad-berih
with His planning,

ya maw-waà-duhu sadiq
Promise is true,

O He Whose ‫من ُّلطْفُ ُه‬ َ ‫يَّا‬
Benignity is ya mal-lut-fuhu ähir
manifest, ‫اه ٌر‬ِ َ‫ظ‬
O He Whose ُ‫م ُره‬ ْ َ ‫م ْن أ‬ َ ‫يَّا‬
Command is ya man am-ruhu ghalib
overruling, ٌ ِ ‫غا‬
‫لب‬ َ
O He Whose Book ‫من ِكتَا ُب ُه‬ َ ‫يَّا‬
ya man kitabuhu muh-kam
is clear and final,

Judgement is
inevitable,
ya man qadha-uh ka-in

O He Whose Qur'an
is glorious,

eternal,

ya man fadhluhu àmem
is common to all,

is great.

to others
simultaneously, ٍ‫س ْمع‬ َ ‫عن‬ َ
O He-doing one
thing does not
prevent Him from
ya mal-la yam-nau'hu fi-a'-lun ‫يَ ْمنَ ُع ُه ِف ْع ٌل‬

doing other things
simultaneously, ‫عن ِف ْع ٍل‬ َ
O He-the speech of
one person does not
ya mal-la yul-hehi qaw-lun àn
make Him needless
of the simultaneous

does not make Him
forgetful of other

requests,
‫َال‬ ٍ ‫سؤ‬ ُ ‫عن‬ َ
O He-the sight of ‫من ال‬ َ ‫يَّا‬
one thing does not
prevent him from
ya mal-la yah-jubuhu shayun
àn shay ‫شيْ ٌء‬ َ ‫جبُ ُه‬ ُ ‫ح‬ ْ ‫َي‬
seeing other things
simultaneously, ‫شيٍْء‬ َ ‫عن‬ َ
O He-the plaintive
cries of those who ya mal-la yub-rimuhu il-hahul- ‫م ُه‬ ُ ‫من ال ُيبْ ِر‬ َ ‫يَّا‬
weep and lament do
not bother Him,
mulih-hen
َ ‫ح‬
‫ني‬ ِّ ِ‫املُل‬ ْ ُ‫حاح‬ َ ‫إِ ْل‬
O He Who is the
ultimate Aim of the
ya man huwa ghayatu muradil-
mureden

efforts of saints,
‫يدي َن‬ ِ ‫امل ُ ِر‬ ْ
O He Who is the
Goal of Gnostics,
ya man huwa muntaha

himamil-a'arifen

O He Who is the
Goal of seekers,

ya jawadal-la yab-khal
never a miser,
‫خ ُل‬ َ ْ‫يَب‬
O True Who never ‫ادقا ً ال‬ِ ‫ص‬ َ ‫يَا‬
ya sadiqal-la yukh-lif
breaks the promise
‫ف‬ُ ِ‫خل‬ ْ ُ‫ي‬
O Munificent Who ‫هابا ً ال‬ َّ ‫يَا َو‬
ya wah-habal-la yamal-l
never regrets,

O Dominant Who is

O Monarch Whose ‫ملِكا ً ال‬ َ ‫يَا‬

O Light that is َ‫يَّا نُورا ً فَوْق‬

O our Helper, O our ‫اص َرنَا يَا‬ ِ َ‫يَا ن‬

O Lord of the small ‫غا ِر‬ َ ‫الص‬ ِّ ‫ب‬

O He, Who is the َ ‫من َّل ُه‬

‫م ْن إِ َليْ ِه‬ َ ‫يَا‬

‫من ال‬ َ ‫يَا‬

O He, Who causes ‫ماتَ ِني‬َ َ ‫م ْن أ‬َ ‫يَا‬

[I beseech you for] al-ghawth al-ghawth al-

O Sublime, O ‫يَا َر ِفيعُ يَا‬

O Refuge of the ‫يَا ظَ ْه َر‬

Praise be to You, ‫ك َيا ال‬ َ َ ‫حا ن‬ َ ْ ‫سب‬ ُ

‫م ْن آ َياتُ ُه‬ َ ‫يَا‬
