Narrative on Crime Prevention Week

Due to the serious number of various forms of crime that we are experiencing nowadays –
robbery, murder, hold-ups, snatching, drug abuse, and rape, it is a necessity that everybody is informed
and apprehensive of the crime prevention programs and activities of the government.
Directed at instilling pupil’s awareness of the crime prevention programs, Caniogan Elementary
School conducted a short program with a theme, “Krimen ay Labanan, Karapatan ay Igalang Tungo sa
Mapayapang Pamayanan” last September 22, 2014. This aimed to generate community awareness and
appreciation of the importance and value of crime prevention and fostering interest and participation of
the general public especially the students in the prevention of crime and maintaining peace and order
and public safety. It is necessary to put much emphasis on the active participation of the pupils because
of young people’s vulnerability to fall as victims of crime and also due to the increase in violent school-
related incidents. This took place after the flag ceremony.
Since all sectors of society are enjoined to take in the celebration, Kagawad Petri Cortes of
Barangay Caniogan gave his message to the pupils. He tackled the importance of crime prevention week;
why is it necessary for us to celebrate this and how it can be done.
Severino N. Arriola, a retired Police Chief Inspector who was believed to be more knowledgeable
in this matter was also invited. He emphasized the three elements of crime. In robbery for example, it
will take place when these three elements are present; there is something is a robber, he has a chance
of committing it, and the act of committing it. According to him, we can prevent crime by removing
giving no chance of a robber to commit it. How? Of course, by securing our valuables, not showing off
our jewellery or expensive gadgets.
BCE Cop Romnick Ynion also took part in the program by giving his insights on what we can do to
prevent various crimes that could possibly happen in school. Thus, we must be vigilant as crime happens
anytime and anywhere and school is not an exemption to it.
Teachers and pupils listened attentively to the speakers making the program a successful one.
