Gospel: Mark 1:1-8

This is the beginning of the Good News of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It is written in
the book of Isaiah, the prophet, "I am sending my messenger ahead of you to prepare your way.
Let the people hear the voice calling in the desert: Prepare the way of the Lord, level his paths."
So John began to baptize in the desert; he preached a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness
of sins.

Reflection:
The gospel last Sunday talks about humility, as John the Baptist humbles himself to Jesus
Christ. As I know, John the Baptist was an amazingly popular figure as everybody in Jerusalem
and people from all over the Judean countryside went out to listen to him preach. But even
though he is well-known, he preached about someone else, someone who would come after him
whose sandal thongs John did not consider himself even worthy to tie, who is Jesus Christ.

“It is not about me" John said, what I realized about this is that, it is taking the focus off
of myself and focusing on what really matters, which is God. This reminds me that as a sinner, I
should always humble myself to the Son of God and I should repent and confess my sins to Him.
I also realized that when I come before God, I need to do it with humility, because there is
nothing in my power that I can do to earn my own salvation as He is our Almighty God and
without Him and His unconditional love we are nothing in this world and without the sacrifices
of His Son, mankind would live in sin all the time, and become the children of sin.
