ESSAY WRITING

Have you ever visited a place you had left long time ago and found it had
changed considerably? Write an essay comparing and contrasting “the way it
was” with the “way it is now”.

Two years ago, I and my wife returned to Maktab Perguruan Islam, Bangi and visited
one of my old lecturers, Ustaz Rani. I had not been there since I was working at 2002. It was
about twelve years’ time. As I drive along the maktab, my mind was flooded by lots of
memories. I saw the court where I and my friends were played tennis and football together. I
saw the hut where we studied together. I saw the hostel where I had where I had stayed for my
three years studied here. I saw the canteen where we used to buy food and even do discussion.
However, what I saw and what remembered were not the same as now.

I still remembered my hostel was very old and ‘ugly’. Lots of buildings around the
maktab were look very old and seeing like not being painted for many years. Even, there was
only one tennis court, basketball court and badminton court. As I remembered, there was only
one academic block and two hostels each for male and female trainee teachers. However, the
maktab area was very big. We had to walk from hostel to the other side of the maktab to reach
the academic block. It was very tired but we really enjoyed that time. Every day, we were
competing to see who will be the first person to reach the class. We really enjoy our three years
studied there. Our relationships like siblings and took care each other very closely.

However, there were only sweet memories that stall in my memories. The maktab is not
how it was when I saw it gain. Once I drove in the maktab, all the buildings that in my
memories are still here. It just that beautiful scenery welcomes me to the maktab. The academic
blocks have become three blocks with bright painted colours. There are also two male hostels
and two female hostels in the maktab area. Even the sports facilities also increase where two
tennis courts, two badminton courts, two basketball courts, a gymnasium and a full spec field are
being prepared in the maktab area. In the evening, I can saw lots of trainee teachers make used
of all the facilities provided and having some recreation sports at the sport arena. As my
memory flow back to my studied year time, I still remember I and my friends won the tennis
competition among the teacher training centers in Malaysia. That was the court where we had
training and fun together. My memories flash back to the place where we had discussion
together under the tree. Now, that place has become parking lots. Overall, the maktab really
looks very beautiful and suits its responsibilities in order to train a good quality teacher.

As the maktab area had change and being beautify, it was really very beautiful and suit its
role in order to train a super teacher. All the building and facilities provided in the maktab area
are prepared to all the trainee teachers as one of the way to train them in all role including sports,
emotional and religiously. I really proud to be one of the trainee teachers in this maktab as it
plays it’s role effectively. Because of all the lecturers taught in this maktab, I became a
successful teacher nowadays. Lastly, I would like to express my thankless to all the lecturers.
Even though the feeling twelve years back is not the same as two years ago, but, all the sweet
memories will be always in my mind.
