Feather Haven Farms Bathroom Manual

It is interesting that even the bathroom can become a place of Catholic practice. I am not
kidding. It is a place of the most humility. In this place, the creature is face to face with just how
“fallen” we have become in this exile. Daily self-care needs inform us of our actual mortality.
Here, in the bathroom, we can see that we are finite. Here, the creature can witness that we are
not kings of any nation. Pride ends in the bathroom. Vanity is challenged by the bathroom
mirror. The toilet literally connects with our very “dust”. The bathtub reminds us that we cannot
stay clean past a few fleeting moments. Take a moment each moment you enter this place of
humility and embrace it. Take a moment to thank God for His Gift to us of Jesus. In the restroom
we can be reminded that this veil is a place we pass through before the door opens to infinity.
There are several things to consider for a restroom at the “farm-ette”. First, decore can be modest
and Catholic in nature. Including live plants in the bathroom allows for the theme of “life” to be
carried throughout the environment. Cleaning and self-care items should be readily available.
Any guests or host families that are using the “farm-ette” should consider replacing any cleaning
and health care products used.
The restroom should remain clean each day. It is important to consider the “shared” nature of
Jesus’ farm-ette. Consider the restroom to be Jesus’ restroom. I know this is a strange thought.
However, the farm-ette is own physically by man, but spiritually it is to always to be considered
owned by God. The infra-structure should be cared for and shared by all in this fashion. Below is
a list of things to manage:
 Clean mirror
 Clean countertop and sink
 Clean/ mop floor
 Clean Toilet and Shower
 Dust and wipe down walls/ cupboards as needed
 Wash rugs and hand towels as needed
 Replenish Holy water as needed
 Replenish toilet paper as needed
When anything breaks, and is in need of repair, it is important to notify the physical owners of
the particular farm-ette. If the repair involves water, the water to that particular item, in need of
repair, should be immediately shut off and addressed.
At the “original” Feather Haven Farm, Guests will notice that a holy water font in provided at the
door of the restroom when leaving. This placement is purposeful. It allows members and guests
to bless themselves often through their day. Blow is a prayer to consider when leaving the
bathroom area. It can be placed in the restroom to be used daily. The space can also be blessed
with holy water weekly. I use a spray bottle of Holy Water that I keep filled. I also keep Holy
Salt on each windowpane.
See the prayer to Saint Joseph for Purity below:

O Guardian of Virgins and holy Father St. Joseph, into whose faithful keeping were entrusted
Christ Jesus, Innocence itself, and Mary, Virgin of virgins, I pray and beseech thee by these dear
pledges, Jesus and Mary, that, being preserved from all uncleanness, I may with spotless mind,
pure heart and chaste body ever serve Jesus and Mary most chastely all the days of my life.
Amen.
