3 Issue Description
This bulletin is to provide follow-up information to “Technical Bulletin 08-009 Stand Safety
Upgrade” distributed in May 2008 (see attached). IDC identified a potential safety issue on
1600 stands manufactured prior to April 2007. Although the safety risk has been determined
to be minimal, there is a possibility that the 1600 stand may experience inadvertent movement
of the cross-arm assembly.

4 Resolution Description
Upgrade kits are needed to correct this safety issue and prevent any potential safety hazards.
The upgrade kits have been tested and are ready for distribution shortly. IDC will be sending
you all the required kits for your 1600 stands to your main office for distribution. The order
will specify the serial number of your 1600 stand and will reference the appropriate part
number of the upgrade kit. If you have any questions regarding your order, please call the IDC
Technical Support team at 1-866-975-6737.

5 Materials and Tools

Different upgrade kits will be supplied depending on the serial number of the 1600 stand
installed:
• IDC Part 999-9999-510 = Serial Number 10533 - 10665
• IDC Part 999-9999-511 = Serial Number 10254 - 10532
• IDC Part 999-9999-512 = Serial Number 10014 - 10253

6 Safety Considerations
Until the upgrade kits have been installed, the systems can be used with caution. Operators
must ensure that they and their patients are not in the path of the moving system. If any
inadvertent movement occurs, the EMERGENCY STOP SWITCH must be used immediately.
In case of failure, this should prevent any personal injury.

NOTE: If the emergency stop switch is pressed and the system is reset, proceed with caution.
If the stand continues to move inadvertently, please contact the IDC Technical
Support team at 1-866-975-6737.

7 Work Instructions
Work instructions for the installation of the upgrade kits are located on the CD that will be

provided in the upgrade kits. The instructions will need to be accessed and printed prior to
initiating the upgrade. If you have any questions regarding the work instructions please call
the IDC Technical Support team at 1-866-975-6737.

Upon completion of the upgrade installation, please complete the attached form and
fax to IDC.

 2 • Issue Description

2 Issue Description
This bulletin is to inform you that we have identified a potential safety issue on the 1600
Stands that were manufactured prior to April 2007. Although the safety risk is quite minimal,
there is a possibility that the 1600 Stand may experience inadvertent movement of the cross-
arm assembly.

NOTE: In the event of inadvertent movement, the emergency stop switch will still operate.

3 Resolution Description
To correct this safety issue and prevent any potential safety hazards, 1600 Stands will need to
be upgraded. The upgrade includes a new security device and software that acts as a backup
safety to ensure that inadvertent movements of the 1600 Stand are prevented. Different
upgrade kits will be provided depending on the serial number of the stand:
Upgrade Kit 1 - 1600 Stands with serial number 10014 up to and including 10253
Upgrade Kit 2 - 1600 Stands with serial number 10254 up to and including 10532
Upgrade Kit 3 - 1600 Stands with serial number 10533 up to and including 10664

NOTE: 1600 Stands with a serial number of 10664 and higher are not affected and do not
require an upgrade.

4 Materials and Tools

The upgrade kits are currently being assembled and will be ready for distribution shortly. All
materials and instructions required to perform the hardware and software upgrades are
supplied with the kit.
Upgrade kit part numbers will be supplied and distribution will commence once verification
and validation of the kits have been completed.

5 Safety Considerations
