Introduction

Learning is a continuous process that should always be embraced. Technological

advancements in education have made learning modalities easier as students are not restricted

learning. Further, technological learning has been identified as deeper learning as instructional

objectives support it. To cite some examples, eLearning, Mobile Learning, Microlearning, and

Blended Learning are an integration of educational technology.

Technology in learning modalities

E-learning involves learning through the internet to acquire solutions to enhance

knowledge and performance. This learning approach is often based on a network to deliver

required information to users and focuses on the broadest view of learning (Yang, 2013).

Mobile learning is conducted by the use of small computing devices such as mobile

phones and tablets. People can learn anywhere and anytime as the use of personal computers

simplify the process.

Micro-learning is an approach that integrates learning in packages. People learn in small

units and short-term activities mainly to acquire relevant skills. This approach focuses on

ensuring that people acquire the simple skills that they require in life.

Blended learning is an approach that integrates formal and non-formal techniques as it

combines traditional and online media. The approach gives the learner freedom to control the

place of learning, time and pace (Dziuban et al. 2005). However, it requires the presence of the

student and the teacher in a classroom. Moreover, it involves online media where the teacher

shares the learning materials on the internet thus referred to as integration of formal and non-

formal approaches.

Conclusion

Technology advancements in the education field are essential as it has made it possible and more

accessible for everyone to acquire knowledge. Technology in learning modalities has further led

to active, cooperative, interdisciplinary, individualised and professional learning.
