We wish to extend our sincere greetings and warm welcome to all guests, participants and organizers of

the Science and Technology Fair!

The Department of Science and Technology had been pushing for sustainable countryside development
through Science, Technology and Innovation. This is particularly evident in this year’s theme of “Science,
Technology and Innovation: The Road Towards a SmarTer North Luzon”. As a cluster, we have ensured
that all activities in this week-long event will feature what we, in the Department are doing to push for
scientific researches and innovations particularly through DOST’s program on SmarTer Technologies.
Similarly, we have sponsored activities specifically designed to promote S&T appreciation to our students
in the region.

DOST strives to adapt and come up with scientific and technological breakthroughs that are applicable to
local circumstances, thereby ensuring that these technologies are of use to the people. This is the
governing message of this cluster fair that we hope will be achieved.

Through the conduct of this 8th NLC S&T Fair, we hope that all stakeholders will take advantage of the
wealth of scientific and technological information being offered. Isaac Asimov, an American writer and
professor said, “There is a single light of science, and to brighten it anywhere is to brighten it
everywhere.” With the promotion of science and technology in this event, we pray that the people of
North Luzon will realize Science and Technology’s integral role in bringing about the much needed
sustainable development that can push for the improvement of the lives of the people not only in north
Luzon but in the whole country as well.

Finally, we would like to extend due acknowledgement to the collaborative efforts of the DOST NLC
management and staff, our partners, the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI-DOST),
the Benguet State University, the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education and the
Philippine Information Agency for their invaluable support and contribution to ensure the success of this
activity.
