4 ¾” Fishing Agitator and Bowen Super Fishing Jar recover

RSS Directional BHA in highly deviated 6 1/8” hole after being
stuck for 12.7 days

Objective:
To recover a 743 feet long RSS directional BHA and PDC bit
differentially stuck at 11,443ft while landing the 6 1/8” hole at
3.5deg/100ft DLS. The last survey prior to getting stuck had -500 500 1500 2500
been made at 88deg inclination. The necessity to retrieve the 0
fish was due to the presence of a radioactive source in the
BHA. Differential sticking occurred while making connection. 1000

- The 743 ft fish had been laying in open hole for 12.7 days. 743ft BHA/fish
- 7 BHAs had been used while attempting to retrieve the fish.

- 123.5 hours had been spent engaged to the fish, split as
follows:

• 60 hours jarring,
• 38.5 hours circulating pills and
• 25 hours working the string. 5000
- 3 grease pills and 4 acid pills were spotted without any
movement of the fish. 6000

The final BHA was run with an Agitator and a Bowen Super 7000
Fishing Jar. Jarring up was followed by holding the string in
tension while pumping through the Agitator. Vibration generated

by the tool moved the fish 10 feet up. Jarring a few more times
released the fish from its stuck point.

The string was free in less then 1 hour.

Results:
While the chances of recovering a fish after 48 hours of getting 11000
stuck decrease substantially, the Agitator and Super Fishing
Jar were able to free the 743ft long RSS directional BHA with

that lasted 12.7 days. The cost savings were substantial.
