My Transition Plan Matthew Baker

What I plan on
doing
• After I graduate high school, I
plan on taking a gap year.
• During this gap year I’m going to
be working fulltime so that the
following year when I plan on
going to post-secondary school, I
have enough funds to do so.
• I'm also going to be taking a gap
year to really figure out and
confirm my career choice.
The Job I Will be working

• I plan on working fulltime as a laborer for a

construction company called Jacob Brothers
• The hours would be 10-12 a day 5-6 days a
week with a hourly pay of 19$ an hour.
• Some of the responsibilities would be things
like Groundwork, formwork, clearing terrain,
grinding, cutting and chipping concrete
and Other labor duties as assigned.
Why this job?

• I plan on working this job

because, it pays well and you get
lots of hours.
• they also have construction sites
everywhere, so the commute
wouldn't be bad
• and it has barely any
requirements to apply.
What I Plan on doing
after
University of the
Fraser Valley
After my gap year I plan on attending The
University of the Fraser valley
Why UFV?

• I will be attending UFV because I have heard so

many good things about it and have 2 siblings
already attending it.
• It's also not very far from where I live which
makes it convenient
• Its affordable

complete foundational business, math,
economics, marketing, and finance

knowledge.
• In the third and fourth year, you get to
specialize by choosing from one of
seven majors or minors. Each includes
tailored courses to refine your skill set.

what I'm getting into and will help me
choose what I want to do with my degree
after I finish the program.

My financial
plan
• So if I worked in my gap year fulltime for an entire year I would have worked
around 3,190 hours that year, and getting payed 19$ an hour I would have a
gross income of 60,000$, after taxes (23%) I would be left with around 46,200$
and if I work every summer for 3 years while in school I will have worked
another 2,376 hours which would make me 45,100$ gross income and after
taxes 34,700$, with all the money I made if I kept 55% for personal needs such
as travel etc. I would be able to pay for the schooling that costs Approximately
24,300$ (6,075$ annually) for the university expenses and the Approximately
11,600$ (2,900$ annually) for books and school fees
