The Project consists of the Design, Build, Completion and Maintenance of


Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Causeway Project (Main Link), which
spans across Kuwait Bay between Kuwait City and the Subiyah area.
The 36km Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Causeway Project is a
combination of low-level bridges, embankments and transition islands. A
main bridge will span the navigation channel and a free flow interchange
at the Shuwaikh Port will connect the causeway to the main road network
in Kuwait City.
Hewson are supporting and advising contractor Hyundai on the design
and construction of the bridge as well as the design of the temporary
works. Extensive use of precast construction techniques is being made on
the project. This includes massive precast pile caps, piers and deck units;
some weighing up to 1,800 Tonnes. Hewson are assisting Hyundai to
design temporary works for lifting and stabilising these massive precast
units.
In addition Hewson have completed a shipping impact assessment and
are providing geometry control and erection engineering for the central
cable stayed bridge which has a main span of 177m.
