Table 1: Fixture Unit Values:
Table 2: PROBABLE DEMAND OF WATER:
1. Computation of Fixture Units of a Household:

Determine the maximum and the probable demand of water for the
following fixtures installed:

Water closet – 7, Lavatory- 7, Shower / Bathtub – 7, Kitchen sink-1,

Bar Sink – 1, Laundry sink –1. What size of the service pipe is
required to serve the above fixtures?

SOLUTION:

Solving for the fixture units as base on the given above using
the table:

Water closet 7 sets x 6 F.U. = 46

Lavatory 7 sets x 2 F.U. = 14
Shower 7 sets x 2 F.U. = 14
Kitchen sink 1 set x 2 F.U. = 2
Bar sink 1 set x 2 F.U. = 2
Laundry sink 1 set x 2 F.U. = 2

Total = 80 Fixture Units

Compute for the Maximum Demand:

80 F.U. X 8 Gals. = 640 Gals

Referring to the Table of Probable Use:

80 F.U. is above 50 Fixture Units or More & between 10% to 25%

Assume that 10% is safe for 80 Fixture Units, Therefore;

640 Gals x 10% = 64 Gals per Minute.

Refer to Table below:

for a 25 mm ( 1” ) inside diameter of pipe in 6.00 meter

length with 133 Newton pressure the size of 25 mm
( 1” ) diameter could supply water of 70 Gals.
Per minute (GPM).

2. OVERHEAD TANK SIZING COMPUTATION:
DETERMINE THE QUANTITY OF THE PERSONS LIVING IN THE
HOUSE:

DESIGN CRITETIA:
SAY; 10 PERSONS MULTIPIED BY 30 GALS / PERSON
= 300 GALS.
ADD: 1/3 FOR RESERVE, SO;
= 300 GALS + 100 GALS = 400 GALS.

AS PER TABLE BELOW UNDER CYLINDRICAL TANK CAPACITY,

THE SIZE OF THE CYLINDER TANK UNDER 396 GALS CAP.
IS;
LENGTH=1.65 MTRS X DIAMETER = 1.05 MTR.

3. TO COMPUTE FOR THE CISTERN;

JUST MULTIPLY THIS BY 2 OR MORE OR ASK YOUR CLIENT.

THEREFORE; 400 GALS. X 2 = 800 GALS.
THE SIZE OF THE RECTANGLE CISTERN SHALL BE;
WIDTH = 9 FT X LENGTH =10 FT & 6 INCHES X 1 FT.
OF HEIGHT.

4. In sizing Cylindrical Hot Water Storage Tank. In order to serve a total of

10 persons, therefore;
10 persons x 10 Gals. Of water = 100 Gals. Multiply by 35% = 100 Gals x
0.35 = 35 Gals. Refer to table above, it is under 37 Gals.
Therefore use 2 Ft. x 30 inches Tank. Air space is not included.
TABLE FOR BOILER TANK PER PERSON CONSUMPTION:
FORMULA:
5. FORMULA ON HOW TO COMPUTE HORSE POWER OF THE PUMP:

Therefore; Use 0.50 hp booster pump and 25 mm dia. Riser pipe.

DWV LAYOUT
FORMULA IN SIZING DIGESTIVE CHAMBER:
TABLE 10: FOR SIZING SEPTIC TANK DIGESTION CHAMBER:

6. SIZING OF SEPTIC TANK FOR RESIDENTIAL:

For Residential places such as Condos; volume per person shall be 0.14 to 0.17 cu.m.
of liquid per person, however, Single Dwelling that has 10 person serve, refer to table above,
the size of the digestive tank is D = 1.20 x W = 0.90 x L = 1.80 meters.
TABLE 11: SIZING THE BRANCH PIPE AND SOIL STACK PIPE:
7. SIZING OF BRANCH PIPE AND SOIL STACK PIPE:

TAKE NOTE:
75 MM DIAMETER ( 3”) BRANCH PIPE CAN CARRY DISCHARGE
FROM A MAXIMUM OF THREE ( 3 ) WATER CLOSETS AND ABOUT 3
BRANCHES OF SOIL AND WASTE PIPE CAN
CONNECT TO SOIL STACK IN SAME DIAMETER.

IN THE DESIGN GIVEN, ONLY TWO WATER CLOSETS ARE

CONNECTED TO SOIL-WASTE BRANCH PIPE.

COMPUTE FOR THE TOTAL FIXTURE UNITS IN ONE OF THE BRANCH

PIPE SHOWN:

2 WATERCLOSETS X 6 F.U. = 12 F.U. OR 3 WCLOSET X 6 F.U. = 18 F.U.

2 LAVATORIES X 2 F.U. = 4 F.U.
2 SHOWERS X F.U. = 4 F.U.
20 F.U. ONLY

REFERRING TO TABLE ABOVE:

20 FIXTURE UNITS IS UNDER 75 MM ( 3”) DIA.
THEREFORE SPECIFY 75 MM DIA. SOIL-WASTE BRANCH PIPE
TABLE 12: FOR SIZING THE SANITARY OR HOUSE SEWER DRAIN:
SANITARY DRAIN DEFINITION:
8. SIZING OF SANITARY OR HOUSE SEWER DRAIN PIPE:

COMPUTE FOR THE SANITARY HOUSE DRAIN PIPE:

AS SHOWN IN THE PLANS:

Water Closet - 7 sets x 6 f.u. = 42 f.u.

Lavatory - 7 sets x 2 f.u. = 14 f.u.
Shower - 7 sets x 2 f.u. = 14 f.u.
Kitchen Sink - 1 set x 2 f.u. = 2 f.u.
Bar Sink - 1 set x 2 f.u. = 2 f.u.
Laundry Sink - 1 set x 2 f.u. = 2 f.u.
Total Fixture Units = 76 f.u.

THEREFORE:

Referring to Table to determine the Size of Sanitary Drain

Under 2% Slope…for 96 f.u. the approve pipe size is 100 mm (4”)
Diameter.
TABLE 12: FOR SIZING VENT STACK AND BRANCH VENT PIPE:

9. IN SIZING BRANCH VENT AND VENT STACK PIPES FOR RESIDENTIAL, JUST
DIVIDE THE SIZE OF DRAINAGE PIPE TO BE VENTED. BUT SINCE 1-1/2 “ DIA. PIPE
IS NOT AVAILABLE IN PVC, THEREFORE USE 2” DIA. PIPE FOR VENTS.
TABLE 13: ROOF LEADER AND GUTTER SIZING:
ROOF LEADERS OR DOWNSPOUT:
10. SIZING ROOF LEADERS OR DOWNSPOUT:

DETERMINE THE SIZE OF THE ROOF:

FIRST IDENTIFY THE TYPE OF THE ROOF WHETHER IT IS FLAT ROOF,

GABLE ROOF OR HIP ROOF.

IN THE ROOF DESIGNED FOR THIS PROJECT, THE TYPE IS HIP ROOF.
THIS TYPE OF ROOF HAS FOUR SLOPES DOWN TO EACH SIDE.

IF THE TOTAL ROOF TRIBUTARY AREA IS 280 S.M. FOR EASY

COMPUTATION THEREFORE:
HAVING DIMENSIONS OF (14 M. X 20 M.) THE LONGEST DIMENSION IS
(20.00 +6.00) / 2 X 7.00 = 91 S.M. LONGEST SIDE, WITH 49 S.M. ON
EACH SHORTER SIDE.

REFERRING UNDER THE GIVEN TABLE ABOVE “ROOF LEADER”

95 S.M. IS BETWEEN 76 TO 165 S.M. , AND HAS 125 MM WIDTH
GUTTER OPENNING AND 90 MM DIA. DOWNSPOUT PIPE.

SO PUTTING 2 OR MORE DOWN SPOUTS OF 75 MM DIA. IN ONE SIDE

IS SAFE FOR BACKFLOW.
TABLE 13: FOR SIZING OF STORM DRAIN PIPE:
11. SIZING OF STORM DRAIN PIPE:

TO DETERMINE THE SIZE OF THE STORM DRAIN, COMPUTE FOR THE

TOTAL FLOOR AREA OF WHERE THE DRAIN HAS TO BE PUT ON.

IN THE DESIGN PRESENTED, THE LOT IS CUT TO TWO, IT HAS UPPER

GROUND AND LOWER GROUND.

THAT MEANS IF THE LOT IS 390 S.M. JUST DIVIDE IT BY TWO,

AND YOU HAVE NOW A REFERENCE OF 195 S.M. PER AREA.

REFERRING TO STORM DRAIN TABLE ABOVE:

195 S.M. IS BELOW 242 S.M. UNDER 2% SLOPE,

THEREFORE; USING 4” (100 MM) DIA. PIPE IS SAFE FOR STORM DRAIN.

Note: All what is indicated on the table are in Minimum, that means,
we can always use the next higher diameter of pipe.

FRONT OF PLUMBING PERMIT FORM
BACK OF PLUMBING PERMIT FORM
Basic knowledge as Professional:
Securing PTR-Professional Tax Receipt:
 Beginner – Present your Master Plumbers PRC I.D. Together with
 duplicate to the City Treasurer’s Office for Professional Tax
 Renewal – Just present your OLD PTR to the same window (Orig.)
 When? – Every January of each year. If late surcharge per month
 of delay will be added.
 Note: DO NOT LOSE the Original, and/or the rest of your PTR
 Official Receipt/s,
 Why? – Because if you do, you will start from the beginning again.
 How if I pass the board ten years ago before I secure my PTR?
 Answer: Cost of PTR per year (Current) multiply by Ten years,
 that is how much you will pay the Treasurer’s Office.
 Always Secure Residence Certificate for employed (Cedula ).
Signing Plumbing Permit Forms:
 Always SIGN the upper box intended for the Plumbing Designer.
 If not the in-charge of the project, Do Not Sign the lower box. But,
it can be negotiated and that is another fee for you.
How to charge your Client based on the Project Plumbing
Cost for your Professional Design Services fee:

For Plumbing Design Services:

1. Compute a Probable Plumbing Cost of your Project.
2. Make your Own Standard Average Costing Per Toilet , Kitchen,
Septic Tank, Cistern and other appurtenances per size of structure
for you could easily come up to your “Ball Park Figure”.
3. Then apply the available Table of Fees under Plumbing Uniform Rate
approved and implemented on March 4, 2001 by NAMPAP & BOMP.
4. Then now You would know how much Professional Fee you are going
to charge your Client.

Sample Computation for Design Fee:

1. Say: Project Cost determined by “Ball Park Figure” is:
PHP 1,000,000.00
Under Plumbing Uniform Rate: for 2%
============
Professional Fee PHP 20,000.00

Note: Is this Fee commensurate to your job? Will you not supervise your
design? This Worth will run for 6 to 8 months project duration.
Sample Computation for Purely Sign and Seal Services:
For a Two Storey Residential with 7-Water closets, 7-Showers,
7-Lavatories, 1-Kitchen Sink, 1-Laundry Sink, 1-Bar Sink, 3-Faucets
1-Water Meter.

 Based on the Given Uniform Rate: First Plumbing Unit will be

charged of P 500.00 / Unit. And succeeding Plumbing Unit say;
an additional of Water Closet, Urinal, Shower and so on will
be charged of P 200.00 / unit.
 Now, Based on the given Plumbing Units above you have:
28 Unit of Plumbing Fixtures.

 Computation:
First Plumbing Unit 1 Unit x P 500.00 / unit = P 500.00
Succeeding Units 27 Units x P 200.00 / unit = P 5,400.00
=======
P 5,900.00

Plus:
Signing for the Project In-charge: P 1,500.00
=======
Total Master Plumber’s Professional Fee: PHP 7,400.00
“Need to Revisit for Revision:”
Computation for Plumbing Design Fee for a Small House:
 A Plumbing Approximate Cost Total P 30,000.00
Below P 250,000.00 4%
========
P 1,200.00
Expenses:
Draftsman’s Fee: P 700.00
Estimate & Specs. 500.00
Plotting: 120.00
Blue Print ( 1 x 6 sets) 72.00
Xerox 20.00
Fare 100.00 P 1,512.00
========
Balance: (Negative) P 312.00
Computation for Sign and Seal only for a Small House:
1-Water Closet, 1-Shower, 1-Lavatory,1-Kitchen Sink, 1-Hosebibb,
 Therefore:
First Plumbing Unit: 1 x P 500.00 / Unit = P 500.00
Succeeding Units: 4 x P 200.oo / Unit = P 800.00
 Plus:
Project In-charge Signing Fee P 300.00
=======
 Total Professional Fee: = P 1,600.00
How to create Owner-Master Plumber Contract Agreement
