Tech 5th Semester Examination Limit State Design of Concrete Structures-] (CBS) CE-501 Time : 3 Hours wwweepaper-tk Max. Marks : 60 The candidates shail limit their answers precisely within the answer- book (40 pages) issued to them and no supplementary/continuation sheet will be issued. Attempt one question each from Sections A, B, C and D. Section E is compulsory. All questions carry equal marks. Use of |S: 456-2000 is allowed. Use of SP: 16 (Charts and Tables only) is allowed. SECTION -A What ts the role of water cement ratio in Concrete? (3) Discuss the importance of curing of concrete on durability characteristics of concrete. (3) Describe the various types of the loads considered in the design of structures? (3) Compression test were performed on 39 samples of 150 mm x 150 mm x 150 mm cubes of concrete which yielded at following compressive strengths in Nimm?. 26 28 32 34 36 32 34 32°27 35 26 34 28 29 30 34 35 34 27 28 24 28 34 36 Note : 4. Discussing the salient features, demonstrate the procedure to find stress value corresponding I. wiv strain. 40) oh (b) What are the limitations of all three design philosophies ie working stress method, Ultimate load method and Limit State method. (6) SECTION - B (a) Using Limit state Method, find the moment of resistance of a singly reinforced beam 300 mm wide and 417 mm deep up to the center of the tensile reinforcement. The overall depth of the beam is 450 mm. The beam is reinforced with 3 bars of 16 mm diameter. The concrete used is M20 Grade and steel used is Fe 415 grade. (6) {b) Design a cantilever beam projecting 2.2 m beyond the fixed end loaded with a superimposed load of 15 kNvm run inclusive of its self weight. Using M20 grade of concrete and Fe 500 grade of steel design the beam. The width ot the beam is to be restricted to250 mm. ~ (6) Design the panel BC of the continuous slab shown in figure subjected to uniformly distributed imposed loads 10 kN/m? inclusive of self-weight of slab using M 20 and Fe 415. The load of floor finish is 0.75 kN/m?. The span dimensions shown in the figure are effective spans. (6) (b) Define nominal shear stress 1, of rectangular and T- beams of (i) uniform depth and (ii) varying depth subjected to bending moment and shear force. (8) For a ring beam 350 mm wide and 750 mm deep to the bottom, and 700 mm to the centre of tensile steel, determine the reinforcement required when subjected to factored moment Mu = 300 kNm, factored torsion, Tu = 90 kNm and factored shear Vu = 100 KN. Use M 20 and Fe 415 for the design. (12) SECTION - D Design a waist slab type dog legged staircase for an office building using the following data. Height between floors is 3.2m. Tread = 270 mm and riser =160 mm. Width of flight = landing width =1.25 m. The stairs are supported on 300 mm load bearing masonry walls. at the outer edges of the landing, parallel to the risers.
