insulation and fire protection systems to the offshore oil and gas industry, and represents
one of the most respected and progressive names in topside and subsea insulation
worldwide. Advanced Insulation offers a wide range of products to meet the growing
demand for fire protection and thermal insulation systems adaptable for elevated
service temperatures and pressures. Advanced Insulation also provide a range of subsea
buoyancy and SURF (subsea, umbilicals, risers and flowlines) products along with Marine
specific fendering and buoyancy systems. The company’s products are qualified and
used worldwide by major oil and gas companies including: Total, ConocoPhilips, Chevron,
Samsung, BP, Statoil, ONGC, ENI Woodside, Talisman and ExxonMobil as well as by their
engineering and fabrication contractors.
Advanced Insulation ISO9001:2008, OHSAS18001 and of Innovation, International Trade and Sustainable
ISO14001:2004 accreditations reflect the company’s Development. Further recent awards for Advanced
commitment to quality and sustainability in the Insulation include the 2015 EEF Smart Product award

ContraFlame® JF120
Multi-Functional Passive Fire Protection and
Thermal Insulation Composite
ContraFlame® JF120 is a multifunctional composite system based on unique phenolic syntactic foam and phenolic glass
reinforced laminate which combine to provide fire protection and thermal insulation.
+ Jet fire passive fire protection to 120 minutes (J120) + Tolerance to very low service temperatures (-196ºC)
+ Hydrocarbon pool fire passive fire protection to 180 + Robust energy-absorbing structure
minutes (H180)
+ Excellent water resistance
+ Blast overpressure resistance up to 4.2 bar
+ Negligible smoke and fumes in fire conditions
+ Thermal conductivity is comparable with cellular
+ Will not propagate flame

+ Ambient curing
+ Closed cell structure
ContraFlame® passive fire protection system is backed by more than fifteen years of research, testing and field
experience. It is a truly passive system not relying on any chemical or physical changes when exposed to fire. As a
result, the material has a much wider tolerance to service temperatures than other conventional passive fire protection
materials.

Layouts
The fire protection offered by a
ContraFlame® JF120 system provides
the designer with a greater degree
of freedom on layout with potential
savings on pipework.
Lifetime Cost
ContraFlame® JF120 system provides
seamless, high integrity corrosion
protection reducing lifetime costs in
hostile environments. The extremely
robust nature of the system ensures
low maintenance costs for the system
and high resistance to accidental
damage from adjacent operations.
Weight
The topside weight can be
significantly reduced by using
ContraFlame® JF120 as the weight
of ContraFlame® JF120 system
is significantly lower than other
available syntactic insulation / fire
protection alternatives.
Thermal Efficiency
The k value of ContraFlame® JF120
system is 0.05Wm-1K-1 which is
equivalent to that of Rockwool or a
cellular glass.
