ContraFlame® JF120
Multi-Functional Passive Fire Protection and
Thermal Insulation Composite

ContraFlame® J120 fully bonded

ContraFlame® JF120 is a multifunctional composite system based on unique phenolic syntactic foam and phenolic glass
reinforced laminate which combine to provide fire protection and thermal insulation.

+ Jet fire passive fire protection to 120 minutes (J120) + Tolerance to very low service temperatures (-196ºC)
+ Hydrocarbon pool fire passive fire protection to 180 + Robust energy-absorbing structure
minutes (H180)
+ Excellent water resistance
+ Blast overpressure resistance up to 4.2 bar
+ Negligible smoke and fumes in fire conditions
+ Thermal conductivity is comparable with cellular
+ Will not propagate flame
glass or dry Rockwool
+ Ambient curing
+ Closed cell structure

+ Tolerance to elevated service temperatures (185ºC)

ContraFlame® passive fire protection system is backed by more than fifteen years of research, testing and field
experience. It is a truly passive system not relying on any chemical or physical changes when exposed to fire. As a
result, the material has a much wider tolerance to service temperatures than other conventional passive fire protection
materials.

Application of JF120-200 & JF60-200 Riser Protection System

Pre-application Requirements (JF120-200 & JF60-200)

Substrate blasted to min. SA 2.5 and coated with approved anti corrosion coating e.g. NORSOK MCR-501. Optimum
temperature for application work is between 15oC and 40oC. Temperature of the surfaces to be coated shall be at least
3oC above the dew point, and the relative humidity shall be less than 90%

Application of ContraFlame JF120-200

Pre formed ContraFlame C50 half shell rings (75mm) bonded
to riser with ContraFlame® tie coat at 2 - 2.5m centres.

Tie coat applied to the riser in areas which will be coated

with C50 (typically within 10-45min of tie coat application).
ContraFlame® Tie Coat is used to ensure good wetting
of the coated steel surface and to aid adhesion during
application and service. The tie coat is applied with paint
rollers at WFT 150-300 microns.
ContraFlame® C50-400 layer is overall 75mm thick and
split into two separate applications of 35mm and 40mm
separated by an overnight cure and with a tie coat bonding
between each layer.

Additional half shell rings (15mm) are then bonded to the

existing 75mm half shell rings for the final layer of the
C50-700 grade.
The 3rd layer thickness of C50-700 foam is applied slightly
in excess of the half shell ring (15mm) and smoothed out
with the stainless steel rolling pin to achieve a concentric
finish to the specified overall thickness of 90mm.

The D2004 Laminate system consists of a combination of

5 layers of 450g/m2 Chopped Strand Mat, a single layer
of Silica Mat 600g/m2 and a double layer of 450g/m2

ContraFlame® CSP and PFP
Cryogenic Spill Protection and Passive
Fire Protection Deck Tiles

ContraFlame® CSP fire rated Cryogenic Spill Protection consists of phenolic or polyester fiberglass reinforced tiles
which are filled with ContraFlame® C50 thermal insulation material. The system provides integrated thermal
insulation and passive fire protection to J60 or H120 and thermal insulation for decks which are exposed to cryogenic
spill. ContraFlame® CSP & PFP systems have been standardised to support rapid application during construction or
offshore retrofit.
