Experiment No.5

Single Phase induction motor

Eng. Mohammed Mosleh

Objectives:
1- To study and differentiate between the various starting and
running.

2- methods for the single phase induction motor.

3- To be able to demonstrate the connection of a single phase

induction machine.
4- To control the direction of rotation of the machine.

Used Equipment:
1-Single phase AC motor.

2- Single phase power supply.

3- Digital multimeter.
4- Single phase power analysis meter.

Procedure:
1- Before making any connections, set the suitable
voltage of the motor on the power supply. Make sure
that you are setting the voltage L-N, not L-L.
2- Connect the single phase motor.
Results:
Active
Voltage Current Power Direction Speed
Power
(V) (A) factor of Rotation (RPM)
(W)
10 3.0 200 0.194 CCW 0
30 3.5 215 0.217 CCW 500
50 1.13 238 0.251 CCW 1054
70 1.27 275 0.305 CCW 1289
90 1.45 305 0.342 CCW 1446
110 1.78 321 0.351 CCW 1485

Conclusions:
1. The lowest resistance is main winding , to get big
current.
2. The resistance of centrifugal Switch is Zero.
3. One phase Induction Motor Not self-starting Motor.
4. The Best type is Capacitor Start The Capacitor run
motor, But it has Problem for example high cost ,so
we use Capacitor Start Motor.
