Starting The Site Maintenance Terminal System
Starting The Site Maintenance Terminal System
Prerequisites
Context
The following uses the Windows 7 operating system as an example to describe how to set the IP address of the SMT PC.
Procedure
Prerequisites
l The IP address and subnet mask of the SMT PC are set correctly. The IP address is in the same network segment as the IP address
(192.168.0.72/255.255.255.0) of the BTS.
l If the BTS OML is established, run the LST BTSLOCALETHPORT command on the BSC LMT to check whether the ETH port is enabled. If not, run
the SET BTSLOCALETHPORT command to enable the port.
NOTE:
After the BTS is powered on or reset, if the BTS OML is not established, the ETH port is enabled by default.
Procedure
1. Connect the SMT PC to the BTS through an Ethernet cable. One end is connected to the Ethernet port on the main control board of the basic cabinet,
and the other end is connected to the Ethernet port on the SMT PC (usually a portable PC).
2. Open the MS-DOS Prompt dialog box.
On the SMT PC (Windows 2000/XP/7), choose Start > Run. In the Run dialog box, enter cmd, and press Enter. The MS-DOS prompt dialog box is
displayed.

3. Run ping 192.168.0.72 to verify the network connection between the computer and the BTS.
NOTE:
If the returned information is similar to that given in the example, the SMT PC and the BBU can communicate normally.
Prerequisites
After the BTS is powered on or reset, if the BTS OML is not established, the ETH port is enabled by default.
Context
Table 1 lists the mapping between BTS versions, default user names, and default passwords for logging in to the SMT.

2. Under Select Communication Port, select Network Port and enter required information in the User Name, Password, and BTS IP Address text
boxes.
NOTE:
¡ The BTS should support the function which requires User Name and Password information.
¡ The default value of User Name is admin.
¡ The default value of Password for logging in to the SMT has been changed to hwbs@com in V100R014C00SPC008 and later.
¡ If the BTS version is V100R016 series versions or later before the upgrade:
n If the default password for logging in to the SMT has been changed before the upgrade, the new password takes effect upon the next login
after the BTS is upgraded to V100R018C10 or later.
n If the default password for logging in to the SMT remains unchanged before the upgrade, the password for logging in to the SMT is
hwbs@com after the BTS is upgraded to V100R018C10 or later.
¡ A mechanism is added to lock the SMT when a user has failed to log in to the SMT for three consecutive times. When the SMT is locked, the user
cannot log in to the SMT within 10 min. During this time, the user can maintain the BTS only by remotely logging in to the BSC LMT. In
addition, the number of consecutive login failures and lock duration can be configured by following steps provided in Setting Login and Password
Security Policies.
¡ Users are advised to change the default password after logging in to the SMT for the first time. Otherwise, the BTS is vulnerable to malicious
attacks.
¡ Users can log in to the BSC LMT and run the SET BTSUSERPWD command to change the user name and password with Username and
Password Type set to USER_SELF_DEFINE, Username set to admin, and Encrypted Mode set to ENCRYPTED. Each letter of the user
name can be capitalized but case sensitive. To prevent the BTS from being maliciously attacked, it is recommended that the default password
policy is used or a securer password policy is set by running the SET PWDPOLICY command.
3. Optional: Perform the following steps to update the BTS digital certificate if required:
a. Click Update Digital Certificate.
The Update Digital Certificate dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 2.
Figure 2 Update Digital Certificate dialog box
b. Specify Trust certificate and Certificate revocation list as required, and click Update.
Return to the System Login dialog box.
4. Click OK.
¡ If the number of login times exceeds the specified maximum number of login times, logging in to the system fails. The result is displayed on the
status bar in the System Login dialog box.
¡ If the SMT PC communicates with the BTS normally, a window is displayed, as shown in Figure 3. The SMT is started successfully.
¡ If the SMT PC fails to communicate with the BTS, the Communication failed dialog box is displayed, as shown in Figure 4. Go to 5.
