PROPOSAL ON REDUCING CARBON FOOTPRINT IN COMUNITY
Problem statement :
In 2016, Malaysia emitted 62.8 million of greenhouse gas by transport sector. A carbon
footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions that come from the production, use
and end-of-life of a product or service. It includes carbon dioxide, the gas most commonly
emitted by humans and others, including methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases, which
trap heat in the atmosphere, causing global warming. Usually, the bulk of an individual’s
carbon footprint will come from transportation, housing and food.
Just by driving 20 fewer miles per week, performing regular vehicle maintenance,
adjusting your thermostat, enabling your computer’s sleep function, washing two loads of
laundry on cold, recycling waste, and replacing three incandescent lights with CFLs, our
family can reduce its CO2 footprint by 5718 pounds or nearly 3 tons per year. Additional
changes like choosing 10% green power can save an additional 2148 pounds per year, while
replacing single pane windows with Energy Star windows can save an additional $150 and a
whopping 8841 pounds per year.
There are so many ways, both big and small, that us can contribute to a healthier planet.
Reducing family carbon footprint is as easy as making a few conscious changes to daily
routine and making wiser choices as a consumer. With over 7 billion people currently calling
planet earth home, it is easy to think that our actions won not make a difference. However, if
every person made minor changes to their daily routines, small savings can make a huge
impact.

Expected Result :
Driving efficiently can help to reduce emissions by go easy on the gas and brakes. Regularly
service car to keep it more efficient. Keeping tires pumped correctly also can reduce
emissions. Next, air conditioning and intensive city driving can make emissions creep up. Cut
down on these as often as possible. Use cruise control on long drives in to save gas. A
properly-maintained vehicle can improve gas mileage and fuel economy by 4 percent, always
tuned up vehicle, tires inflated, and oil and air filter cleaned out regularly.
In order to reduce carbon footprint, we also can self-maintained our car by keeping tires
inflated to the recommended level. When tires are not inflated properly they increase the
wear-and-tear of the tire and fuel costs. Getting regular tune-ups will go a long way to
increasing fuel efficiency and improving the lifespan of vehicle. Changing the oil regularly
also will contribute to a cleaner engine and lower vehicle emissions.
By maintaining existing car with frequently service and adopting greener behaviours on
transportation such a good start to reduce carbon footprint in Malaysia, especially in Taman
Merpati community.

Scenario 1 is chosen, which is maintaining the existing car but with regular maintenance.
Since,
The total CAPEX for CBA1 is lower than CBA 2 although OPEX for CBA1 is higher than that of CBA2.
This shows that over the period of 10 years, maintaining the existing air conditioner unit is more valueable compared to purchase a new one.
