THE FLORIDA SENATE

SENATOR WILTON SIMPSON

President

MEMORANDUM
TO: All Senators and Senate Professional Staff
FROM: Wilton Simpson
SUBJECT: Remote Work on Tuesday, January 19 and Wednesday, January 20, 2021
DATE: January 18, 2021

We are very grateful to state and local law enforcement and our Florida National Guard for their
presence in Tallahassee over this holiday weekend. As you know, there were no adverse events
at the Capitol Complex this weekend.

Currently our Capitol remains secure, and we have no indication that there are planned acts of
violence. However, over the next two days, law enforcement anticipates an unknown number of
protestors and counter-protestors at the Capitol. In consultation with Sergeant Kelly and Capitol
Police, I am requesting that our Senate Professional Staff work remotely on Tuesday (January
19) and Wednesday (January 20) as law enforcement will be utilizing some of the communal
areas within the Senate for staging purposes.

If you need to retrieve office items to work from home, we would ask that you do so on Tuesday.
Please be aware your parking space may be taken. You can temporarily park in the control zone,
just passed the guard shack at Madison Street. As a reminder, do not use your swipe card to give
access to anyone into the building.

I appreciate your assistance on Tuesday and Wednesday and look forward to seeing everyone
next week for our second interim committee week.
