NOTICE
If the Huawei power monitoring module is connected to the ESM for the first
time, the monitoring module will restart automatically as battery management
parameters need to be switched to the ESM.
Step 2 When multiple ESMs connected in parallel are powered on, observe the RUN
indicator on each ESM panel. Communication is normal if the indicator is steady
on and is not established if it blinks at short intervals. Check the communications
cables between ESMs and rectify the fault.
Step 3 When the ESMs are communicating with the monitoring module, check whether
the communication is normal. If the RUN indicator on an ESM is steady on, the
ESM communicates properly with the monitoring module. If the indicator is
blinking at short intervals, the communication is interrupted. In this case, check
that the communications cable is properly connected.
Step 4 Observe the ESMs for 15 minutes. Ensure that they are working properly (the ALM
indicator is off and the RUN indicator is steady on).

A Common Criteria
Safety Precautions
● Avoid skin contact with electrolyte overflow. Before installing or maintaining
batteries, wear goggles, rubber gloves, and protective clothing.
● Keep the ESM loop disconnected during installation and maintenance.
● Secure ESM cables to the torque specified in the ESM documentation. Loose
connections will result in excessive voltage drops or cause ESMs to burn out
when the current increases.
● Protect your skin and eyes from ESM electrolyte leakage. If your body comes
in contact with electrolyte leakage, wash with clean water immediately and
visit a doctor.
● Avoid ingestion of ESM components.
● Protect the ESMs from mechanical vibration, collision, punctures, and strong
impact. Otherwise, the ESMs may catch fire.
● Do not throw ESMs in fire because this may cause the ESMs to ignite.
● Do not immerse ESMs in water or expose them to rain.
● Replacing an ESM with an incorrect model may cause cross current and bias
current, which will trigger ESM protection. Long-time operation with an
incorrect model will result in cell or board faults, which may cause risks such
as fire.
● If the ESM loop is short-circuited, ESM protection will be triggered and the
ESM cannot be charged or discharged. Long-time frequent short circuiting can
result in cell or board faults, which may cause risks such as fire.
● An ESM communication failure alarm caused by reasons such as loose
communications cable connection should be handled within 72 hours (default
value, configurable in the range of 1 minute to 720 hours). Otherwise, the
ESM will be internally locked, which may affect the ESM power backup.
● Dispose of waste ESMs in strict accordance with local laws and regulations.
Misoperations
The following lists some misoperations that should be avoided.
Reverse If terminals are connected with reverse polarity, the ESM will
connection not start and will stay in sleep mode. If you hold down the
MANUAL ON/OFF button to activate the ESM, it will report a
protection alarm and the ALM indicator will be lit.
Gas Composition
The ESM is an enclosed battery system and will not release any gases under
normal operations.
If the ESM is severely misused, for example, being burned or thunderstruck, the
ESM may be damaged, resulting in electrolyte leakage. Because the electrolyte is
of organic carbonate nature, it may produce CO2, CO, and N2 after being burned.
B Warranty Rules
● Huawei will not be liable for any damage to Huawei ESMs caused by force
majeure events.
– Natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and landslides
– Fires
– Wars
– Lightning strikes
● Huawei will not be liable for any damage to Huawei ESMs caused by the
following events:
– Damage such as breakage and leakage is caused to the ESMs due to
misoperations or incorrect connections during the ESM transportation
and installation performed by the customer.
– The customer does not recharge the ESMs in time and the ESMs are
stored more than six months longer than the storage term, which causes
capacity loss or irreversible damage to the ESMs.
– After the ESMs are installed and connected to the system, the customer
does not power on the ESMs in time, which causes the ESMs to be
overdischarged and further causes damage to the ESMs.
– Damage is caused to ESMs because they are not accepted in time due to
customer reasons.
– Damage is caused to ESMs because the operating environment or
external power parameters do not meet operating environment
requirements. For example, the ambient temperature is poor, power
outage frequently occurs in the power grid, the ESMs are frequently
overdischarged due to the customer's improper maintenance, the
capacity of a customer site is expanded, and the ESMs are not fully
charged for a long period.
– The customer changes the ESM use scenarios without notifying Huawei.
– Damage to ESMs is caused by the customer or a third party, for example,
the customer relocates or reinstalls ESMs without notifying Huawei.
– The customer does not correctly set ESM operating management
parameters including but not limited to ESM capacity, number of ESMs,
equalized charging voltage, float charging voltage, charge current limit,
and disconnection voltage.
– The customer does not service ESMs based on the appropriate operation
guide. For example, the customer does not periodically check whether
ESM terminal screws are tightened.
– The customer connects extra loads to ESMs.
– The customer mixes Huawei ESMs with other ESMs, which causes the
acceleration of capacity deterioration. For example, the customer uses
Huawei ESMs together with the ESMs of other brands or rated capacities,
or with old ESMs.
– ESMs are stolen.
– The ESM warranty expires.
