1. Course Description
Course name 3G Radio Access Network Signaling
Level Advance
Target group Experience RAN network engineers who involve in network
rollout and start up

Objectives  Understand important RAN signalling procedures relate


to call setup: RRC connection setup, transport user
plane setup, packet switch attach/detach, PDP context
activation, intra frequency handover and HSDPA
/HSUPA
 Describe different call phase of circuit switch call, packet
switch call, HSDPA/HSUPA and important parameters
 Trace (protocol analyzer) the signalling message on
different transmission interface (RAN) and interpret the
significance of parameters
 With the help of the documentation, able to analyse
signalling trace file and indicate fault in RAN

and transport network layer and describe the generic use of
each of these planes

 List the involved protocols building the Iub, Iur, Iu-PS, Iu-CS

 Describe the role of each protocol in a single sentence

 Describe the interface and protocols used for the transfer of


operation and maintenance data in radio networks
