LOVE THE DIFFERENCES

By: Ralph Escuadro

“Love is real, real is love, love is feeling, feeling love ”... the first phrase to one of John Lennon’s
famous song. Truly love can be felt anywhere this February. This is the month wherein Mr. Cupid is
searching for his targets.

Ah... Valen ne’s Day! This is the day when lovers are searching for things or planning something for
his/her special someone to make this day a special day. O en men pick the BEST of the BEST for his
special one. We normally prac ce this style BUT things change a bit nowadays, even ladies are also
doing a lot of efforts in showing their affec on to their special someone.

Here in Japan, they have their own tradi on and style on how they celebrate this day. Things here
are li le different, the one that is giving their best effort are WOMEN, they are the one busy finding
something for their special someone. According to a site I've read.. Valen ne’s Day became popular
in Japan in the 1950s, due in part to a few notable business campaigns, par cularly, a confec onary
that began selling heart-shaped chocolates during the season, and a large department stores that ran
a “Valen ne's Sale". Target customers were women, who were encouraged to buy beau ful and deli-
cious chocolates for the men in their lives”. Yes, CHOCOLATE is the best gi they give.

If you receive a chocolate here, it does not mean that she likes you. Not ALL chocolate they give are
the same. Japanese have different words to describe the types of Valen ne’s Day chocolates given on
Valen ne’s Day.
Here they are:

”Giri Choco” - 義理チョコ. These are chocolates known as the obliga on chocolates. They are ready
made chocolates given to co-workers, family members and acquaintances. They are given in non-
roman c gesture.

"Tomo Choco” - 友チョコ. As the word says, these are chocolates given to a female friend.

"Honmei Choco” - 本命チョコ. These are chocolates meant for or given to a man that a lady is roman-
cally interested in. They are usually fancier and expensive or even homemade. But ladies here pre-
fer to do it by themselves as it holds more significance that store brought. They are wrapped in a very
roman c way.

You may ask how about the men, how can they show their affec on to his special one? Well here
they have a special day called the “White Day”. It is celebrated exactly one month a er the Valen-
ne’s Day. It is the day that men give back the favor and the day that ladies are wai ng for as this day
men usually shows his feeling to the ladies he really likes.

Although some of us have different prac ces in celebra ng Valen ne’s Day, it s ll depends on the
people celebra ng it…

ALWAYS REMEMBER!!!
“A Great Rela onship Is About Apprecia ng The Similari es And Respec ng The DIFFERENCES!!!”

Happy hearts day!!!!

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE
COMMON SOURCES OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS
IN OFFICES

The typical office provides many opportuni es for going green, from adjus ng office ligh ng system to the types of office
supplies to choose and use. In order to know what to do to help the environment, we need to know the following com-
mon sources of environmental impacts in the office.

Management

Sustainability can only be improved if the company’s management is commi ed to it. The organiza on
should build an ac ve, goal-oriented way to promote environmental issues.

Communica ons and engagement

Regular communica ons are required to engage the en re work community in sustainability.

Energy and water

Energy consump on is usually the greatest source of environmental impacts in an office. The organi-
za on should help to improve the property’s energy efficiency, for example by reducing electricity
consump on and taking the origin of energy into account.

Procurement
Wise procurement decisions will make the market more sustainable, and they will help generate less
waste and avoid overconsump on. The organiza on should select sustainable products and partners.

Recycling, sor ng and cleaning

By recycling and sor ng waste efficiently, the organiza on par cipates in u lizing exis ng materials.
The organiza on should reduce the overconsump on of natural resources and enable circular econo-
my solu ons.

Travel
An organiza on can decrease a large part of their emissions by improving their methods of travelling.
The organiza on should help to specify principles of sustainable travelling for work-related travel.

Food I&C/C&E Engineering Division - C&E Engineering Department

Construc on Engineering 2 Sec on
Vegetarian food has lower environmental impacts than meat and dairy products almost without ex-
cep on. The organiza on should guide its employees to choose sustainable vegetarian products for
work-related events and coffee breaks.

In line with these, MHPS established an Environmental Policy for the group companies to contribute to the protec on of
the environment and the development of a sustainable society on a global scale.
