PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
To all employees of MHPS-TS

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year.

I hope that you all had an enjoyable celebration

together with your families. I also would like to
thank MHPS-TS staffs who had spent New Year
holiday at the job site.

At the start of 2020, I would like to offer “My New

Year’s Message” to you.

First, let’s look back to our activities in 2019.

(a) Though our workload is decreasing from

1.65 M hours in 2018 to 1.35 M hours in 2019,
we still have a high workload. As you can see,
there are still a quiet number of Sub-
Contractors who are still working together with
us.

(b) We have been conducting and continuing our activity as being Global Engineering Center since four years ago. In addition, by
collaboration with our sister companies, such as PHL/PSC/GSC, customers’ attention and expectation is way more than what we
have expected.

(c) As one of our activity for responding to the expectation, we have started lump sum PJ for small PJs. It is a breakaway from
payment using man-hour rate. As it is important to manage inlet/middle/outlet gate in lump sum PJs, our kick-off meeting and
monitoring procedure shall be our weapon in the near future.

(d) 2 years ago, we have established our Service Engineering Department and since then our field service capability has started
to gain attention in the market of Service Engineering.

(e) Various challenges in each Division were observed, such as: expansion of new customers in which we have a direct negotia-
tion and discussion, without the usual consideration we get from MHI/MHPS, and strictly contract based. Expansion of our de-
sign scope to new area, trial of multiple operational time shift using our strength and flexibility and made exhibition of our control
system in a trade show for Philippine market.

(f) In our work environment, we had a certification of ISO9001 in one name of “MHPS-TS”. In addition, IT group had completed
the speeding up of MPLS line between MHPS-TS and Japan, and the shifting of piping 3D host server to MHPS-TS from Japan.
IT group also had started regular meeting so that hardware and software will be maintained and improved accordingly.

(g) There is no end if we try to list up all. Anyway, I would like to show my appreciation to you on your leadership, your steady ef-
fort and your mind wanting to improve.

What kind of year do you make 2020?

I would like to lead MHPS-TS operation in 2020 by building up the global engineering center as our pillar while responding to chang-
ing markets.

I would also like to overcome the challenges of the following five (5) action item.

(1) We are half way down the road of our Digital Engineering Platform that is in collaboration with our customers. By using Digital
Engineering Platform connecting to procurement, construction, manufacturing, MHPS-TS can attain the full pledge status of a
global engineering center and become more competitive in MHI/MHPS groups.

(2) Expansion of our scope in both service and engineering work.

(3) Enhancement of competitiveness by collaboration with new customers directly and strictly contract based.

(4) Execution of PJs in Philippines by collaboration with sister companies, and building new executional scheme in MHI/MHPS
Philippines.

(5) Engineers Education System including mentor system and merit system

3 Communique January 2020

I would like to introduce my mental attitude that I have valued since I was young engineer.

Almost all are same as I mentioned every year, however, the following 12 mindsets are fundamental principle which I
think would be helpful to all employees of MHPS-TS.

1. Always ask yourself:

- Does your plan matched with what counter partners require?
- Quality & Speed of our engineering is enough?

2. Evaluate your works (drawing, report, list, etc.) on the points whether or not it is enough to show your engineer-
ing intention to your customers.

3. To keep in mind that you must have "WHY?" in your all process. Never copy something without grasping the
principles such as engineering philosophy.

4. To be able to explain in your own words any draw-

ings and documents that you have created, especially,
when you give a presentation using PPT, make sure
that it is easy to understand.

5. In case you get lost, get back to the basic principle.

6. Imagine your group's status in 3-5 years later, and

share with your colleagues.

7. Get the chance to work at site to get experience and

knowledge that is priceless, especially for young engi-
neers and staffs.

8. To have straight communication and speak out your

thought and idea.

9. Have someone whom you respect or want to surpass. Also, be the one that your staffs would respect and your
colleagues want to surpass.

10. View success not as an overnight activity. Always make room for patience and don’t lose heart especially when
you suffer set-backs and disappointments. Always think that if you get a NO today, somewhere, somehow, a YES is
waiting for you. It might be more than what you have expected.

11. Understandably, Health, safety, and compliance should be a priority by following the Code of Conduct as a
member of MHI/MHPS groups. These are the origin of our activity.

Lastly

As you know, late last year, it was announced that our two parent companies reached a settlement concerning the PJ
in South Africa, resulting into MHPS becoming a 100% subsidiary of MHI.

In this year 2020, there will be some changes to be implemented in our company. It has to happen to give way for
something new. Improvement of our company will not be by chance, but by change.

Nevertheless, MHPS-TS will still be business as usual and that MHPS-TS has been and will continue to be “One
Family”.

Let’s enjoy 2020!!!

Thank you

Masahiko Mishiro
President of MHPS-TS

KEEPING IT REAL
“TRIUMPH OF THE ‘90S”
By: Antero Bagon

Carefully-conceptualized, diligently-prepared, flawlessly-executed. These are just some of the

many ways I can describe the winning performance of the combined Machinery Engineering Divi-
sion and Civil Engineering Department in the recently-held MHPS Christmas party.
All performances that night were very entertaining and worth-watching. The effort exerted by
each group to create a solid 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s-themed production number is by
itself something to be applauded. Each performances was dominated by the music and dance
and the fashion of the respective decade being represented. One group, however, was deter-
mined to go the extra mile and to add another dimension to their performance which convinced
me and in my belief, all the other spectators and the judges as well that the 90’s group already
had it in the bag after their performance. That, as I’ve heard most of the audience said, it was
just the second place that the other groups were vying for.
THE MAGICAL ‘90S TV

So what was it that made the 90’s performance stand out from the rest? The storyline which
gave coherence to each bits and parts of the performance and of course, the manga-inspired
costumes and characters which were given absolute justice by the performers.

The performance started with the hula-hooping Princess Sara (Sarah Aniag) and Cedie: Ang
Munting Prinsipe (Jan Cesar Catapang) playing “tumbang preso” . They then decided to watch
something in this gigantic TV which, in my opinion, is the centerpiece of the whole production.
Behind that big boob tube, all the surprises and entertainment emerged. First to come out
were the manga characters starting with the girls from Magic Knight Rayearth, followed by the
cast of Ghost Fighter and lastly, the sword fight between Samurai X and his adversaries. I think
President Masahiko Mishiro, clad in his awesome Japanese samurai character that night, com-
ing out in that TV together with these manga characters, would have been great to watch.
Turning the channel knob of the TV again, dancers grooving it out to famous 90’s dance hits
were the next who came out. With their version of the Spice Girls, they took the staple cross-
dressing tradition in Christmas party presentations to another level by having Section and De-
partment managers do the stunt.

THE WINNING TEAM WITH ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR MR. ATSUSHI NAKAMURA

Infusing the Christmas spirit, the two kids talked about their Christmas wishes and alas, Santa Claus
(Dennis Verzosa) appeared and granted Cedie’s wish which was a big robot. Wish granted, the robot
Gundam(Pio Mapile Jr.) came out and the robotic costume alone was a winner.

To help the Japanese people present that night understand the storyline more, an animated video
containing the conversations of Princess Sara and Cedie transliterated into Japanese was simultane-
ously being shown on stage as well as other notable 90’s images. I just noticed this while I was play-
ing back the video in my phone. This is another proof of how creative and meticulous the minds of
the people who conceptualized this performance are.

Being a member of the division that this triumphant group represented, but having absolute zero
participation in the preparation and staging of the production is both an advantage and a disad-
vantage. Advantage because I was totally clueless on what I’m about to see, which greatly added to
the anticipation, excitement and enjoyment of watching the whole production number. However, it
was also a disadvantage missing out the fun and adrenaline that the performers had on stage and
not being involved in the creative process and preparations for something that big and successful.

Having said that, allow me to acknowledge the key persons behind this production. Consider this as
my humble contribution, late as it may seem. To Sarah Aniag, Jerusalem Alfonso and Keith Quirong
who conceptualized the story and were the creative minds behind the props and costumes, to Daniel
Arguelles III and Kevin Royce Abis who choreographed the dance moves, again to Jerusalem Alfonso
who directed the performance, to everyone (too many to mention one by one) who diligently pre-
pared, assembled and held the props on stage, danced, sang and given every bit of support to make
the concept an astounding reality, hats off and two thumbs up to you guys for a job very well done.

Corrective Action Report is a procedure used to originate a correc-
tive action. It is used as response to a defect. In simple words, it means an
action/actions adopted to eliminate the problem from occurring again.
Correction relates to containment whereas corrective action relates to the
root cause. The main objective of CAR is to investigate a problem that oc-
curred, by having done the root cause analysis and finding out resolution
to prevent the recurrence. To determine the root cause various tools can
be adopted, one such is 5 whys analysis.

CAR is used to eliminate the cause of defected non-conformity. There can

be more than one non-conformity. Corrective Action is taken to prevent
recurrence of said nonconformance. Here, non-conformity is when a prod-
uct or service does not conform to a certain specification of the prescribe STEPS TO PREPARE CAR

Sharing the Spark of Hope
By: Jeonardine Velasco

This recent post went viral on Social Media which already has more than 64k likes, and 69k shares as of
posting,

When the family of Anselle Joy Castillo, from Civil Engineering Department took the initiative by giving
a helping hand through "Free Food" in their local eatery to our kababayans who just like them were di-
rectly affected by Taal volcano eruption.

A small act of kindness showed by the Castillo family made an enormous impact and created an indeli-
ble memory in the hearts of our fellowmen.

This reminds me of a line from the movie I just recently watched titled God's Not Dead,

"Sometimes all it takes is a spark. Something very small, but this spark becomes a flame, and if this
flame spreads its power becomes so overwhelmed that it can transform everything around it".

System Engineering Section (SES) held their Year-end Thanksgiving Party at Turtles KTV
last December 13, 2019 with another out-of-the-box theme by forming of four groups;
Cowboy, Reggae, Emo/Punk and Hip hop. Each group must sing at least two Christ-
mas songs according to their group theme. First, the Cowboy group showcased their
singing talent while using a guitar, the Reggae group gave everybody a “high” feel-
ing, next the Emo/Punk who made some noise while performing and lastly, the Hip
hop group which aside from rapping and dancing skills, they successfully delivered
hilarious pick-up lines, which enabled them to be the winning group.

All in all, it’s definitely the season to be jolly.
