Building Sea City

Building this project requires brilliant engineers, geo engineers, committed workers, and
advance technology, and heavy machinery. Their goal is to bring the sea water to the
sand city near the shorelines of Kuwait. They’ve taken many scientific steps on building
this project like when they’re digging sand to make passage for the canals, the sand
that they’ve dug up has been used as raw materials for building the other structures on
the sand city like the buildings and other infrastructures. But off course they’ve
encountered many problems along the way, one was the war going-on on their borders,
it halted some of their construction schedules because of that risk.
Before they’ve started the construction, they’ve consider all the affected areas of the
construction, one of it is the environmental aspect of the construction, the construction
will take place on a sea shore that has a marine life environment so they need to study
first and analyze the marine life there before starting the construction so that they don’t
damage the marine life around the sea city
Analyzing of the soil is also one of the most important aspect of construction that
they’ve put more focus so that they’ll know what kind of methods they are going to use
on doing this project. The greatest enemy they found when starting this project is silt,
this saturated kind of soil makes the project challenging to the engineers. The solution
they’ve done here is to remove the silt area and dewater it, first they’ve dewater the
saturated sand and they’ve waited for it to dry, after it is all dried up, they’ve started to
dig and remove the silt.
After this problem, they’ve done some dynamic compaction on the land using some
heavy machineries, they’ve done this so that in the future, all structure that’s going to be
built on the area will not subside. Before they’ve let the water to go through the canal,
they’ve built a bridge that can be used to access the mini island and to carry some of
the construction materials.
They’ve also include a very interesting technology that flushes the water outside the
seashore so that tides and stagnation of water can be avoided, building gate passages
for the water are needed to this project for this water stagnation and tidal problem.
Sands also has to be washed because the sand on the shore are too fine, the coast can
cause erosion and with that, they’ve devise to build a shield around the coast that
protects the coast line of the sand city. Water quality around the project is also
monitored so that they can know if the area of the project can sustain some marine life
to co-exist with the city.
I’ve learned many things on this video documentary, regarding geo engineering, making
sure that the foundation of the structure was being built is very important to be checked
and double analyze before starting the project, it can save us the cost of renovations
and it can make our structure very durable and rigid. Many problems can come to us
when dealing with a project, but we should always think outside the box and always find
solution to every problem that we’ve encounter.
