Project Reflection

Week 2 – Silent Films

In week two we were given the task of creating a Silent Comedy (slapstick comedy). I enjoyed
filming and editing this work, because we are not in collage filming and editing was a challenge
but nothing, I wasn’t willing to have a go at. The use of different camera shots, examples are
extreme close ups, full shots, high angles. Shots I have learned from lessons helped a lot in
filming my slapstick film. The one I used the most was full body shots Having a DSLR and
adobe software has helped me a lot while making my ideas come to reality, I think filming and
editing on a phone would be a lot harder because having to learn new software. My biggest
problem was finding the best place to put my camera, I could get the angle right, I solved this by
looking at the camera and slight movements on the tripod. Another problem that couldn’t be
fixed is the lack of equipment he has available at home; be we are trying as hard as we can.
Working alone wasn’t that big of a problem because of family members that could help film for
us, as you can see my dad is even in this week’s film. Before filming I watched many different
silent films with Charlie Chaplin and other stars like him and watching them inspired me to come
up with ideas and use the stereotypical music and increased the speed of up the by around 50% to
get the impression that it has been filmed. As a whole directing editing this film was something
new and cannot wait for the upcoming weeks.
