DESCRIPTION OF TECHNICAL REPORTS ABOUT

UNDERGROUND MONITORING AND REMEDIATION AT

XXX XXXXXX:

Historical;
Since the Environmental Management Implementation in 1999, was identified a
demand to investigate the underground “soil and water”. For this reason was done a
first evaluation in April, 2000, as follow the Report below.

Date: APRIL / 2000

“Evaluation of underground water and soil quality from Xxx
Title: Chemical’s factory – STAGE I”.

Soil : wasn’t found any values above the top limits in the soil.
Underground Water: were found values above the top limit from
Conclusion:
total chromium and chloride for underground water.

Improve the investigation around of the entire site. Specifically at

Recommendations:
the old sodium chlorate factory C-72.

In 2001 a new investigation was done for complementation of the first study. The new
one was called “STAGE II” as follow the next Report.

Date: JUNE / 2001

“Evaluation of underground water and soil quality from Xxx
Title: Chemical’s factory - STAGE II”

Soil : wasn’t found any values above the top limits in the soil.
Underground Water: were found values above the top limit from total
Conclusion:
chromium and chloride for underground water.

Recommendations Keep aware the environmental agency and make an “Action Plan”.
:
In 2003, during removing of the Diesel tanks to replace them at the boilers area a new
soil contamination with combustible oil was identified. A new study for investigation
was done and the Report as follow;
Date: NOVEMBER / 2003
“Evaluation of the quality from soil and underground water around the
Title: storage area of hydrocarbons”.

Wasn’t found any odor during the drilling of the soil and the results didn’t
show any disorder. About the underground water it was found an odor
Conclusion: from one the wells but the analytical results didn’t show any higher
concentration comparing with standard.

Monitoring each six month from underground water near the area in order
Recommendations
to evaluate the concentrations of TPH during rainy and sunny seasons.
:

In December 2004, after analysis by Environmental Agency, the Xxx has done a new
complementary study to identify the plumes of the contamination and a proper Action
Plan to treatment the problem - remediation or contention barrier. The Report was
concluded in January 2005 as follow below.

Date: JANUARY / 2005

“Consolidation of all the environmental studies of soil and underground
water done until this year in order to attend a specific demand from
Title:
environmental agency”

During the drilling it wasn’t detected any disturbing related with odor and
the analytical results didn’t show any anomaly. It’s not necessary any
remediation process about the soil.
Conclusion: About the underground water it was detected the presence of Cr total and
Cr6+ and chloride. The presence of the contamination was identified but all
inside the Xxx Chemicals site.

Increase the pumping system and treatment of underground water by

operation of one more well, preferentially in the center plume area for a
Recommendations
better efficiency.
:
Keep the program of the monitoring.
