The article “Montreal Startup raises $35-million to fund attempt at reviving failed class

of weight-loss drugs” written by Sean Silcoff is a credible article and is as solid as a good

research project ought to be. The reasons being that it provides real examples of tests ran by

previous companies, it includes quotes from different sources, and it uses an unbiased tone

throughout the text. The validity of this article for good research projects is important because it

would allow for larger amounts of writers to consider using said article as a resource in their

works.

The real-life examples of past tests ran by other companies provide further insight into

the problems of the weight-loss drugs and including these examples emphasize the importance of

creating a solution in today’s time. The previous tests are a form of a case or statistic, the past

data is factual and can be referred to in a research project. This provides credible information to

be used for a research project.

The direct quotes from the different sources solidifies the credibility of the article as it

provides evidence to back up the writer’s claims. The statements from the people involved

makes the article more interesting as it shows what others are thinking and it also changes the

pace of the article as it creates a break for the reader from reading large bodies of text. The

quotes also emphasize factuality for the text as it acts as a sort of witness or proof. These reasons

are why quotes add to the validity of the article and articles in general.

The lack of bias of the article adds to the credibility of the article because if a writer is

biased, he or she may not include the whole picture or proper insight of the subject. The text does

not attempt to persuade the reader to change their mind nor does it convince the reader that this

information is correct as there is no right or wrong in this case, the writer uses and maintains a

neutral tone throughout the article which is a lack of bias. The article also does not include any
sort of imagery as that can act as a type of manipulator in articles, for example; if a writer chose

to include an image of a cute animal to manipulate emotions when writing about abused animals.

Seeing how the writer uses none of these writing techniques in the article makes it a credible

source.

After reading through the article and considering various factors to determine the validity

of it such as providing statistics, statements from different sources, and the exclusion of bias, it

can be determined that the article is in fact a credible source and can be used in a research

project.
