Part D - Define the following vocabulary terms…(15 points possible)


1) Lingua franca
A lingua franca is a language used between two people to communicate, but not fluently, it is
mainly used for business. It is used by people whose first languages are different from each other
so they use the lingua franca to communicate. An example would be English which is used to
communicate with many people around the world that are working with US businesses.

2) Tobler’s First Law of Geography


Tobler’s First Law of Geography is everything is related to everything, but closer things are more
related than far things. An example would be that Atlanta and University of North Carolina are
related, but the University of Georgia is more closely related to Atlanta.

3) Hajj
Hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca that is used for praying and is sacred to Islams. You are not
allowed to go into Mecca if you are not an Islam. At some point in every Islams it is mandatory thar
you take a trip to Mecca.
