It Synopsis

It is a horror novel written by Stephen King, that tells the story of seven preteens from

Derry, Maine known as “The Losers Club,” as they are terrorized by a shapeshifting entity who

primarily disguises itself as clown named Pennywise. The story begins on a rainy day in 1957,

when a six year old boy named Georgie Denbrough sails a paper boat down the street before

accidentally letting it wash down a storm drain. As he approaches the drain, he encounters a

strange clown named, “Pennywise the Dancing Clown,” who offers to give him back his boat.

While reaching into the drain to retrieve his boat, Georgie’s arm is completely ripped off by

clown, and he is later found dead in the middle of the street.

A year after his mysterious death, Georgie’s older brother Bill teams up with his friends

to go after the clown, after realizing that each of them had been stalked and terrorized by it in

many different forms. Through further research on the history of Derry, the group discovers that

“it” is an ancient entity that shows up every 27 years in order to feed on children. The friends

then have to work together to fight not only Pennywise, but the school bully named Henry

Bowers who has been manipulated to become it’s accomplice. After conquering the entity, The

Losers decide to make a blood oath in which they promise to return to Derry if it comes back.

The book then skips ahead to the year 1984, when The Losers return to Derry after

hearing about the brutal murders of multiple children. Remembering the promise they made as

kids 27 years before, the old friends set off to destroy Pennywise once and for all. Through the

use of an ancient ritual, Bill Denbrough enters into the entity’s body, locates the heart, and

officially destroys it. The group then goes separates ways, and once they finally return home,

their memories of these horrific events gradually fade away.
