Did You Know…

Elizabeth was known as Bessie to her friends and family. She was known ‘Nana’ to her grandchildren. Bessie and Len
chose to wait 11 years before they could start a family because she was diagnosed with tuberculosis in her 20’s.
Bessie was a very generous person and worked to give her children everything they needed. She loved Christmas
time with the family. An annual project of hers was to clean the whole house before every Christmas – Len also
helped. She would bake her annual goodies…Christmas Cake, Butter tarts, Peanut Butter balls, Marshmallow Roll to
name a few. One of her favourite desserts was pecan pie.
When they moved to Halifax street, they installed a pool in their backyard in the mid 60’s, they built a custom bar in
the basement and their house was always a place to go to party.
