Assignment 3
CLO-2: Evaluate multiple integrals directly/by using known integrals theorems
Maximum Marks: 10 Instructor: Dr Adnan Aslam
Announcement Date: 04/01/2021 Due Date: 11/01/2021
Instructions:
1. Assignment should be neatly handwritten.
2. Do not use files and folders.
3. Assignment is not acceptable after deadline.
4. Assignment presentation also contains marks (Good presentation does not mean over decoration).
5. If you find something missing or wrong, please make a reasonable assumption and solve the question.

Tasks: Attempt all questions.

Question # 1: Find a potential function 𝑓 for the field

𝐅 = (y + z)𝐢 + (x + z)𝐣 + (x + y)𝐤.

Question # 2 Find the counterclockwise circulation and the outward flux of the
field 𝐅 = (− sin 𝑦)𝒊 + (𝑥 cos 𝑦)𝒋 around and over the square cut
from the first quadrant by the lines 𝑥 = 𝜋/2 and 𝑦 = 𝜋/2.
Question # 3 Apply Green’s Theorem to evaluate the integrals
∮(𝑦 2 𝑑𝑥 + 𝑥 2 𝑑𝑦)
𝐶:The triangle bounded by 𝑥 = 0, 𝑥 + 𝑦 = 1, 𝑦 = 0.
Question # 4 Use a parametrization to express the area of the surface as a double
integral. Then evaluate the integral. (There are many correct ways to
set up the integrals, so your integrals may not be the same as those
in the back of the book. They should have the same values,
however.)
a) Tilted plane inside cylinder The portion of the plane 𝑦 + 2𝑧 = 2
inside the cylinder 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 = 1.
b) Sawed-off sphere The portion of the sphere 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 + 𝑧 2 = 4
between the planes 𝑧 = −1 and 𝑧 = √3.
Question # 5 Integrate 𝐺 (𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧) = 𝑥 √𝑦 2 + 4 over the surface cut from the

parabolic cylinder 𝑦 2 + 4𝑧 = 16 by the planes 𝑥 = 0, 𝑥 = 1, and

𝑧 = 0.

Question # 6 Find the flux of the field 𝐅(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧) = 4𝑥𝐢 + 4𝑦𝐣 + 2𝐤 outward (away
from the 𝑧-axis) through the surface cut from the bottom of the
paraboloid 𝑧 = 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 by the plane 𝑧 = 1.

Question # 7 Use the surface integral in Stokes’ Theorem to calculate the flux of
the curl of the field 𝐅 across the surface 𝑆 in the direction of the
outward unit normal 𝐧.
a) 𝐅=𝑥 2 𝑦𝐢 + 2𝑦 3 𝑧𝐣 + 3𝑧𝐤
𝑆: 𝒓(𝑧, 𝜃 ) = (𝑟 cos 𝜃 )𝒊 + (𝑟 sin 𝜃 )𝑗 + 𝑟𝑘, 0 ≤ 𝑟 ≤ 1, 0 ≤ 𝜃 ≤ 2𝜋
b) 𝐅=3𝑦𝐢 + (5 − 2𝑥)𝐣 + (𝑧 2 − 2)𝐤
𝑆: 𝒓(𝜙, 𝜃 ) = (√3 sin 𝜙 cos 𝜃)𝐢 + (√3 sin 𝜙 sin 𝜃)𝐣 + (√3 cos 𝜙)𝐤,
0 ≤ 𝜙 ≤ 𝜋/2, 0 ≤ 𝜃 ≤ 2𝜋
Question # 8 Use the Divergence Theorem to find the outward flux of 𝐅 across the
boundary of the region 𝐷.
a) Cylindrical Can 𝐅=𝑥 2 𝐢 + 𝑦 2 𝐣 + 𝑧 2 𝐤
𝐷:The region cut from the solid cylinder 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 ≤ 4 between the
plane 𝑧 = 0 and the paraboloid 𝑧 = 1.
b) Thick sphere 𝐅=√𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 + 𝑧 2 (𝑥𝐢 + 𝑦𝐣 + 𝑧𝐤)
𝐷:The region 1 ≤ 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 + 𝑧 2 ≤ 2.
