Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the tyre valves to be used for wheels of automobiles including two wheeled vehicles (hereafter referred to as valves"). Remarks 1. This Standard may apply to the valves to be used in wheels of industrial vehicles, construction vehicles and agricultural machines. 3 2. The following standards are cited in this Standard: JIS D 4211 Tyre valve cores for automobiles JIS K 6259 Testing methods of resistance to ozone cracking for vuleanized rubber JIS Z 8703 Standard atmospheric conditions for testing 3, The units and numerical values given in {_) in this Standard are based on the traditional unit system and are currently the criteria in force. However, they shall be regarded as informative reference values on and after April 1st, 1995. 2. Definitions For the purpose of this Standard, following definitions apply: (1) Terms relating to components (a) yalve stem The part which has a hole for supply or discharge of air") in tyre tube or tyre, and forms the mainstay of valve (see Fig. 1). This means the parts of the valve exeluding valve core, valve cap, vaive nut, valve washer, valve grommet, valve core housing and valve spud. Note (*) In some cases liquid such as water and the like is used. Fig. 1. Valve stem, valve core and valve spud Valve core 7 tH =) b a7 \ Valve stom. . (©) valve grommet, The part made of elastic material to keep the sirtight- ness between valve stem or the like and rim or valve core housing (see Fig. 2). There are two types of packing type and O-ring ype. (d) valve core housing The part with a hole to supply or discharge air, and with such construction that the valve core is able to be attached. This is attached for its service to valve stem which uses liquid such as water and the like (see Fig. 2). (e) valve spud The part to support the valve stem (see Fig. 1). (f) valve extension A kind of extension tube which is used to make feeding of air to inside tyre in dual tyres of automobiles easy (see Fig. 3). Fig. 2. Next, allow the specimen to stand as it is in atmosphere at ~40°C for 4 h or over, then put it in alcohol at 40°C, rotate the valve through 360° while it is inclined by 25° to axis of attaching hole and examine the existence of air leakage from valve attaching hole part. In this procedure, make the speed to rotate through 360° to about 30 s, and ponition the mouth upward in alcohol at/a depth about 20 mm from liquid surface. High tomperature airtightnoss Attach the valve to valve attaching hole of Sintightness test vessel of 72.1 and then make the air pressure in airtightness test vessel to 200 kPa (2.0 keffem*) at ordinary temperature. Next, allow the specimen to stand as it is in atmosphere at 100°C for 72 h, then put it in the water at 65°C, rotate the valve through 360° while it is inclined by 25° to axis of valve attaching hole, and examine the oxistonco of air leakage from valve attaching hole part. Coat the valve surface with soap water, attach the valve to the valve attaching hole of plate for ozone test of 7.2.2 and then clean this assembly with city water to remove soap component. Next, fix the valve with wire so that it inclines to axis of valve attaching hole by 10°, then put the specimen in the ozone tester of ozone concentration in bath 500 = 50 ppb and temperature in bath 38 + 2°C and allow it to stand as it is for 72h. ‘Take out the specimen from the ozone tester and examine the existence of cracks generated on rubber surface. Tensile strength Conduct the tensile strength test as follows: Attach the grip able to fix the threaded part of body in tensile direction, to the ‘upper side of tensile tester and the grip having a hole with the diameter specified in Table 5 able to fix the mbher washer perpendicularly to tensile direction, to the lower side. Nest, attach the valve stem or valve spud to the grips at upper side and lower side and fix them, then conduct the tensile test at a speed 120 + 10 mm/min, obtain the maximum load at which the rubber washer breaks and take this load as the tensile strength.
