E-Resources Access and Use

The licensed electronic resources made available by the PSU Library are for the personal,
noncommercial, educational, research, scholarly, or instructional activities of current authorized users
within the PSU community. The term "Authorized users" includes people currently associated with PSU,
such as faculty, staff, and students.

Some resources are not available to non-PSU users due to publisher restrictions. Infringement of
these necessary restrictions may prompt a publisher to deny access to their licensed content to the
entire PSU community

Generally PERMITTED Uses

1. Downloading insubstantial amounts (NOT entire journals or books)
2. Temporarily storing a reasonable portion
3. Use of small amounts of attributed quotes in your works
4. Sharing reasonable portions with other PSU individuals
5. Posting/sharing links to the article or work

Generally PROHIBITED Uses

1. Sharing passwords, access codes, giving access to non-PSU individuals
2. Systematic downloading by use of scripts, scraping, or robots
3. Sharing proprietary or client software connected to information resources (e.g., those used to
analyze spatial data or search and retrieve texts
4. Creating derivatives (such as your database of materials)
5. Mass reproduction and distribution
6. Posting materials on a publicly accessible website or public listserves

Copyright and Intellectual Property Laws (including the protection of "fair use") AND contractual
license agreements govern the access, use, and reproduction of these resources, noting that terms of a
license can supersede that which the law allows.

Violations on the terms and conditions of use may also subject the violator to institutional
disciplinary procedures and personal liability in judicial proceedings. Each licensed product may have
more specific or additional permissions or prohibitions. Review the terms on the resource's website for
further use guidelines.
