LOCOMOTOR AND NON-LOCOMOTOR MOVEMENTS
LET’S READ:
Locomotor Movements- These are abilities of the body in different motion. It is moving from one place to
another in various ways.
Walking- is the movement sherein the weight is being transferred when walking from one foot to the other.
This movement maybe done forward or backward.
Sliding- Is the movement over a surface of the floor or ground. This is usually done forward movement.
Running- Is the movement similar to walking movement. The only variation is that the doby leaves the ground
when weight alters.
Hopping- Is the movement that separates both feet from the floor and lands on one foot. In this movement, be
careful enough when landing. Body balance ic necessary for proper execution.
Skipping- Is the movement that bounces lightly over a surface of the floor or ground. This is a little bit simple
compared to hopping.
Jumping- Is the movement which both feet leaves the floor and lands on both feet. Compared to hopping this
is harder with great effort.

Non-Locomotor Movement- These are movements of the body which does not require moving from one
place to another or stationay.It allows only some body parts to move.
Stretching- is moving one’s body parts to stretch muscles while your body parts to stretch muscles while your
- body is at rest.
Bending- is moving one’s body in lower portion of the body such as: bending the trunk forward, sideward, and
backward.
Rotating- is moving the body like rotation of head shoulder, hip, and legs.
Twisting- is done through turning or rotating on an axis.
