FIRST SEMESTER

 The Short Story Unit (7 Weeks) August 10th – October 4th)

Students covered all short stories for this unit.


1. “The Man of the House” by Frank O'Conner (1 ½ week)
2. “Emma” by Carolyn Cole (1 ½ week)

Recommendations: It was recommended to add “Greek Mythology” under this unit.


1. Historical background of Greek Mythology.
2. History review of the Greek gods and goddesses.
3. Gods and goddesses of the Olympiads, for example:
A. Zeus
B. Hera
C. Poseidon
D. Athena
E. Hermes

 Introduction to Essay Writing (2 Weeks)

Content covered but needs editing see recommendations below.

Recommendations:
A. Remove the ABC type and include generalized questions.

 Comparative Essay Writing on the two poems

Recommendation:
The content listed above was not covered due to school having to close early because of COVID 19,
because of which teachers recommend to include the missing content in the 4th form course outline for
students to cover the short stories in their 4th year.
 Poetry Study: from A World of Poetry for CXC ( 7 Weeks) (April 6th – May 15th)
Students and teachers covered all the poems below.
 “Little Boy Crying” by Mervyn Morris
 “Once Upon a Time” by Gabriel Okara
 “Bird shooting Season” by Olive Senior
 “The Woman speaks to the Man who has employed her son”
 “My Parents” by Stephen Spender
 “An African Thunderstorm” by David Rubadiri
 “Orchid” by Hazel Simmons-McDonald
 “God's Grandeur” Gerard Manley Hopkin

**The teachers covered two poems in class and the students presented the other six poems.

Recommendation: It was recommended that for the first semester class activities and assignments be
separated.
