Define the following terms related to this topic:
1. Morality
Morality defines and/or it indicates what is the “right” and “wrong” ways to behave.
This is also the principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or
good and bad behavior (Oxford Dictionary). Morality refers to the set of standards
that enable people to live cooperatively in groups. It's what societies determine to
be “right” and “acceptable.” Sometimes, acting in a moral manner means
individuals must sacrifice their own short-term interests to benefit the society.
2. Western
The main values of Western are success and achievement. Western Philosophy
focuses on feeling oneself as an element of the Divine. This also believes that Life
is a service to God, money, business, etc. Their Linear view of the universe and life
is based on the Christian philosophy where everything has its beginning and the
end. Hence, Western promotes Christianity, Rational, Scientific, and Logical
schools. Western world refers to North and South America, Europe, Australia and
New Zealand.
One of the living principles of Western morality according to Leo Tolstoy and I
quote "One can live magnificently in this world if one knows how to work and how
to love.” Western is more focused on INDIVIDUAL EVENTS and the role of the
person and searching self outside – through research and analysis.
3. Eastern
Eastern world is comprised of nations in Asia including the Middle East. Eastern
morality believed that The true key is INSIDE. The inner world of a human being
and his or her ability to control and develop it is of the highest value. The way to
the top is inside yourself, through self-development. This also believes that Life is a
journey towards eternal realities that surround us and Self-liberation from the false
"Me" and finding the true "Me".
One of the living principles of Eastern morality according to Confucius and I quote
"To be able under all circumstances to practice five things constitutes perfect
virtue; these five things are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness and
kindness”. Eastern teaches Buddhism, Confucianism, Hinduism, Integral Yoga,
Islam, Taoism, and Zen.
