Cell Division
- Mitosis- contains a diploid number of the chromosomes, they are diploid.
- Meiosis- contains half number of the chromosomes, so they are haploid.
Gametogenesis

Fertilisation.
Sperms penetrate the corona radiata and zona pelucida.
Fertilized ovum is called the zygote, can be zygotic ( Fraternal twins) or monozygotic
( Identical twins)
Seperation of the zygotic ovum must happen within 8 days of fertilisation or else they
become conjoined twins.
Mitotic cell division is called cleavage. The new cells are called blastomeres.
Morula- solid sphere of cells.

Decidua – lining of the endometrium wall following after implantation.
2nd week
Trophoblast differentiates
Cytotrophoblast
Syncy

Placenta originates from the embryonic part and part of the endometrium. ( foetal and
maternal sources.)

3rd week ( Gastrulation)
Ectoderm-
Mesoderm
Endoderm
Notochord under the ectoderm
Formation of the neural tube and neural groove
Becomes the epidermis or layer of the skin
Neural crest migrate to form other parts.

Development of the somites


Myotomes – muscles cells to form limbs
Dermatomes
Sclerotomes

EMBRYONIC HEART CAN BE DEVELOPED AT THE END OF WEEK 3
Fetal Circulation

Along the neck and head
Pharyngeal arches.
Ectoderm
Epithelial lining
- Urinary bladder.
