We should only scream in an emergency.

There is a fire

There is a stranger

Someone is hurt

You are lost

There is a scary
animal

LEVEL 4
Our OUTSIDE VOICE could be called a shout. It
is for when we need people to hear us in a large
area.
When we are playing outside

When we are presenting at an

assembly
We are doing a special
activity where it is okay

We are afraid or hurt

LEVEL 3
Our GROUP VOICE is a little louder than our
regular voice, but still an inside voice.
We want to ask a question

We want the whole group to hear us

We are someplace with noise

We need to talk to someone across

the room

Someone asks us to speak louder

LEVEL 2
Our TABLE TALK voice is when we talk in our
regular voice; only the people around us can hear.
We are in small groups

We need to ask the teacher a

question

Saying “hi” in the hallway

Playing in the classroom

When we are having lunch

LEVEL 1
We WHISPER when we want only one or two
people to hear us. It is our quiet voice.
We have to say something
embarrassing
We need to tell the teacher
something during an assembly

We are waiting for the bathroom

We don’t want everyone to hear

We are reading to ourselves

LEVEL 0
Our voices are OFF ; we do not talk at all.

We are walking in the hall

We are in an assembly

It is quiet time in the room

We are having an emergency drill

Our teacher’s tell us voices off

Our teachers will help us know what
voice to use. If we don’t know we can
ask!
