VAQ Station for Climate Control

The variable air quantity station regulates the airflow within desired minimum and maximum
levels for zone-wise climate control within the specified noise levels (please specify), and
meeting the following specifications shall be furnished and installed within separate routing of
zone-wise duct or supply air outlets as shown on plan or described in schedules.

The VAQ-AL stations shall incorporate an accurate air measuring station and a motorized low
leak control damper in one assembly with the pressure independent application specific wire-
free mesh controller having multi-hop wireless self-forming, self optimizing and self healing
mesh network having real-time over the air data/firmware update. Baud rate of this network shall
be configured to 76800 bps, i.e. 8 times faster than conventional wired system.

Application Notes
1) Intelligent Climate Control for comfort
a) Variable Supply Air (master) : Shall includes high accuracy low power digital
thermostat (temperature accuracy ±0.2°C, relative humidity accuracy ±2%) with
easy set-point adjustment and large display.
b) Variable Return Air (slave) : Shall be able to receive demand from corresponding
master units through wireless gateway.
c) Constant Supply Air (master) : Shall be able to maintain an adjustable constant
supply air volume or receive potential free input to reset minimum levels during
vacancy.
d) Constant Return Air (slave) : Shall be able to receive demand from
corresponding master units through wireless gateway.
2) Adaptive Climate Control for humidity control or precise temperature control ±0.2°C
a) Adaptive Reheat Supply Air (master), Shall includes UL listed U/W type finned
heater with thyristor and adaptive PID control with auto cut during low primary
airflow.
b) Adaptive Fan Powered Supply Air (master), Shall include in room MERV13 fan
filter unit with continuous duty IE4 and sensorless adaptive PID control with
economising primary and recirculation air while controlling individual zone climate
without disturbing effective air mixing efficiency in the zone.
3) Battery powered wire-free remote module, shall includes epaper display, capacitive
touch button for remote set-point adjustment, temperature & humidity sensor
(temperature accuracy ±0.2°C, relative humidity accuracy ±2%)
Construction
These stations shall be available in custom sizes as per duct or air outlet dimensions and also
dynamically calibrated to required airflow range in a manufacturer test facility with non linear
calibration routine to provide accurate airflow measurement. It shall be available with various
mounting options or configuration. It shall include position feedback directly mounted on damper
blades with a rapid average pitot tube for end to end verification.

Duct Mounting
It shall be suitable for duct mounting having 1 inch TDF flange and installed using 4 bolt system
and bolt on cleat.
An air measuring station shall consist of 3 inch deep honeycomb patterned aluminium airflow
straightener, rapid average pressure pickups probes mounted on station, and differential
pressure transducer within a heavy gauge extruded aluminium c shaped frame. Tested and
rated for airflow measurement in accordance with AMCA standard 611 and shall accompany
calibration certificate.
A motorized low leak control damper shall be made of heavy gauge extruded aluminum airfoil
blades in c shaped frame with nylon exposed gear drive linkage; EPDM blade seals; and form fit
modulating electric actuator suitable for 20000 cycles operation and runtime of 15 seconds. It
shall include direct indication of damper through passive position feedback for proper end to end
verification of damper. Testing and ratings shall be in accordance with Class II leakage as per
AMCA standard 511.

Supply Air Outlet Mounting


Where separate routing of zone-wise ducting is not possible, ultra compact VAQ stations shall
be installed. It shall be supplied with required plenum and mounted inside for easy access and
maintenance.
An air measuring station shall consist of 1 inch deep honeycomb patterned aluminium airflow
straightener, rapid average pressure pickups probes mounted on station, and differential
pressure transducer within a heavy gauge extruded aluminium c shaped frame. Tested and
rated for airflow measurement in accordance with AMCA standard 611 and shall accompany
calibration certificate.
A motorized sliding blade damper shall be made of galvanised steel gang operated radial
blades slides over each other; and form-fit modulating electric actuator suitable for 20000 cycles
operation and runtime of 15 seconds. The actuator and it's control shall be mounted inside the
plenum, in order to avoid trap doors in the interior. It shall include direct indication of damper
through passive position feedback for proper end to end verification of damper. Testing and
ratings shall be in accordance with Class III leakage as per AMCA standard 511.
Fire Smoke Dampers
These dampers meeting the following specifications shall be furnished and installed where
shown on plans and/or as described in schedules. Dampers shall meet the requirements of the
latest edition of NFPA 90A, 92A, and 92B.
Dampers shall be tested, rated and qualified for fire resistance rating under UL 555:1995 and
UL555S. Dampers shall have a UL555 fire rating of 2 hours and tested from nationally
recognised testing laboratory CBRI Roorkee.
The damper shall have a dynamic closure airflow rating equal to or greater than the airflow at
the damper's installed location and a dynamic closure pressure rating of 101.6 mm H2O.
Dampers shall have a Leakage rating of Class I and a Temperature rating of 177°C. Dampers
shall have an operational airflow rating equal to or greater than the airflow at its installed
location and an operational pressure rating of 101.6 mm H2O.
All UL555 and 555S Dynamic Closure Ratings, Operational Ratings and Leakage Ratings shall
be qualified for airflow and pressure in either direction through the damper. UL ratings shall
allow for mounting damper vertically (with blades running horizontally) or horizontally.
Apart from the above requirements, The Life-Safety dampers shall also have

Fail-Safe Thermal Trip


Each damper shall be equipped with a factory installed temperature override control which has
been tested and approved for use with the damper assembly in accordance with UL555. The
temperature override control shall have primary and secondary heat responsive devices which
shall be able to manually reset for testing. The primary heat responsive device shall have a
temperature rating of 72°C. The secondary heat responsive device shall have a temperature
rating of 177°C. The temperature override control shall bypass primary heat responsive device
with secondary heat responsive device by an external signal allowing damper to remain open
until the temperature reaches that of secondary heat responsive device.

End to End Verification


Each damper shall be equipped with an open close indicator directly mounted on the damper
blade for actual feedback. For more accurate airflow monitoring end to end verification and
modulating damper control use VAQ station with fire smoke damper
Construction
Damper blades shall be 1.5 mm longitudinal 3 Vee reinforcement or 0.8mm VCL having double
reinforced curl galvanized steel type with three longitudinal grooves for reinforcement. Damper frames
shall be galvanized steel formed into a structural hat channel shape with reinforced corners. Bearings
shall be composite metal-polymer self-lubricating bushing made out of Steel Back + Porous Bronze
Sinter + PTFE + Lead and minimum ∅11mm. Jamb seals shall be stainless steel or silicon compression
type. Fixed centre, variable off center end blades shall be selected for maximum free area.

Actuator
Damper actuators shall be factory mounted and
qualified for use with the damper and manufacturer
shall have in-house testing of elevated temperature
& cycling test in accordance with UL555S i.e. 20000
cycles operation 15 seconds fail-safe run-time.
Damper actuators shall be electric type for 24 volt
operation or pneumatic 20 psi minimum pressure.
Tested in accordance with UL555s at elevated
temperature of 177°C for 30 minutes.
The damper actuator and optional accessories are
normally externally mounted on the right hand side
of the sleeve and can be turned upside down to
overcome unforeseen clearance problems.
Optional internal mounting with access door is available upon request and shall be specified at
the time of ordering.
Actuators and optional accessories occupy space outside of the fire smoke damper sleeve and
appropriate clearances are required for inspection testing and service.

Sleeve Length and Wall Thickness


The damper assembly shall be inserted into the
prepared opening, to appropriate depth as shown in
drawing. The duct-work terminates at each end of the
damper sleeve. Attachments made through the
retaining angle do not penetrate the no screw area
designated on the damper sleeve.

Recommended standard sleeve lengths for various

Important Note:
Sleeve thickness must not be less than the thickness of the connecting duct.

Installation
1) Install dampers in accordance with manufacturer’s Installation Instructions. Any damper
installation aspect that is not in accordance with the manufacturer’s Installation
Instructions must be approved prior to installation.
2) Dampers must be accessible to allow inspection, adjustment, and replacement of
components. The sheet metal contractor shall furnish any access doors in ductwork or
plenums required to provide this access. The general contractor shall furnish any
access doors required in walls, ceilings, or other general building construction.
3) Install dampers square and free from racking.
4) The installing contractor shall provide and install bracing for multiple section assemblies
to support assembly weight and to hold against system pressure.
5) Do not compress or stretch the damper frame into the duct or opening.
6) Attach multiple damper section assemblies together in accordance with manufacturer’s
instructions. Install support mullions for reinforcement between assemblies as required.
7) Handle dampers using the frame or sleeve. Do not lift or move dampers using blades,
actuator or jackshaft.
8) Install connections to [electric, pneumatic] actuators as specified.
9) Attach multiple damper section assemblies together in accordance with manufacturer’s
instructions. Install support mullions as reinforcement between assemblies as required.

Breakaway Duct Connection


Breakaway connection shall be approved or tested in accordance with UL
1) Slip and Drive This connection uses drive slip connection on the sides of the hemmed sleeve and
S-slip joints on the top and bottom.

2) Quick connect T-24a, T-25a TDF Flange, T-25b TDC Flange

3) Breakaway round duct collar with crimp joint bead (specify diameter)

VAQ Station for Demand Control Ventilation with Fire & Smoke Damper
The variable air quality station having fire & smoke damper regulates the airflow within desired
minimum and maximum levels for demand control ventilation within the specified noise levels
(please specify), and performs the function and meets the specification of fire smoke damper
also at the same location. The VAQ-FS meeting the following specifications shall be furnished
and installed within fresh, return, exhaust & mixed air path as shown on plan/schematic or
described in schedules.

The VAQ-FS stations shall incorporate an accurate air measuring station and a motorised
combination of fire & smoke damper in one assembly with the pressure independent application
specific wire-free mesh controller having multi-hop wireless self-forming, self optimizing and self
healing mesh network having real-time over the air data/firmware update. Baud rate of this
network shall be configured to 76800 bps, i.e. 8 times faster than conventional wired system.

Application Notes
1) Demand Control Ventilation Economiser Unit (Normal or Free Cooling and Smoke
Extraction) with primary 74°C and secondary override 177°C heat responsive device,
appropriate damper position feedback sensor mounted on the blades, airflow monitoring
station for end to end verification and other requirements
a) Supply Air (master), regulates constant airflow during normal or free cooling and
fail-safe closure during smoke extraction shall provide fan speed control signal
analog (0-10 VDC), etc.
b) Mixed Air (on/off), complete closure during normal or free cooling and fail-safe
open during smoke extraction.
c) Return Air (slave), regulates the airflow within minimum and maximum level and
thus economise demand during low enthalpy level and fail-safe closure during
smoke extraction.
d) Optimum Fresh Air, optimise the required fresh with eq.CO2 & tVOC sensor.
Additional multiple slave battery powered wire-free indoor air quality modules
shall be used in the critical variable occupancy zone. It shall includes epaper
display, capacitive touch button for remote set-point adjustment, temperature,
humidity sensor (temperature accuracy ±0.2°C, relative humidity accuracy ±2%)
and low power indoor air quality sensor shall be suitable for 10 years of operation
in an indoor environment with 1.3% long term drift. It shall include high accuracy
airflow monitoring station for proper fresh air delivery monitoring and suitable
alarm shall be raised if actual flow is ±10% from the required airflow.
e) Optimum Exhaust Air (slave), Shall be able to receive demand from
corresponding master units through smart wireless mesh network.
f) Complete Fresh Air (master), regulates the airflow within minimum and maximum
level and thus economise demand during low enthalpy level, free cooling and air-
tight closure during normal cooling or smoke extraction with outdoor IP65
enthalpy sensor (temperature accuracy ±0.2°C, relative humidity accuracy ±2%).
It shall incorporate extruded aluminum drainable louver
g) Complete Exhaust Air, Shall be able to receive demand from corresponding
master unit through smart wireless mesh network
h) Pressurisation, Shall be able to provide dynamic airflow regulation to provide
pressurisation within safe limits during staircase/liftwell pressurisation.

Construction

IAQ Monitor
Indoor air quality monitors are used to maintain contaminants, toxic gases and VOCs within the
limits in the breathing space. These modules meeting the following specification shall be
furnished and installed at 3-6 ft height for proper coverage of the zone as shown on
plan/schematic or described in schedule. More suitable for space which reflects variable occupancy
patterns and are densely occupied (consists of more than 25 people per 1000 sq. ft. of area or outdoor
air fraction is more than 12%).

These monitors shall incorporate an accurate multi criteria temperature, humidity, CO2 & tVOC
sensor for more comprehensive indoor air quality details with the advanced application specific
controller suitable for integration within VAQ station/VAV Terminal thermostat and having self
optimizing wireless mesh network or wired RS-485 daisy chain network. Baud rate shall be
configured to 76800 bps for faster connectivity.

It shall integrate a metal oxide gas sensor to detect a wide range of VOCs and NDIR CO2
sensor technology for reliability.

Each module shall be factory calibrated with Nitrogen(Zero) calibration for better accuracy and
repeatability (±10) within the measurement range
CO2 : 400 ppm – 10000 ppm (Accuracy: ±50 ppm)
tVOC : 0 - 500 µg/m3

It shall have long term stability and a lifetime of 15 years with operating conditions of 0-50°C, 0-
90% RH

Response and Warm Up time should not exceed more than 30s.
