To the Promotion and Sustaining Rank Committee: 01/06/2021

I am writing today to share my observations of the leadership abilities of Kaitlin Chidley. Kaitlin
began her journey as an adjunct instructor within practicum courses. She was hired as an instructor in
August of 2018. Since her hire, Kaitlin has consistently demonstrated the qualities and attributes of an
assistant professor. Kaitlin and I both served on the Admissions and Progression (AP) Committee in
academic years of 2018-2020 when I was the chairperson of the committee, and since the beginning of
Fall 2020 in NUR 2103P; Competencies for Nursing Practice I, where Kaitlin is the practicum lead for the
course.

In academic year 2019-20, the AP committee created three sub-committees to examine

different portions of the admission rubric. The metric sub-committee group included Kaitlin, Dr. Baird
and myself and were tasked with the role of revising the metric portion of the admission rubric. Kaitlin
was appointed to lead the metric sub-committee and demonstrated explementary skills in leadership of
being articulate, time management, and organization. We were kept on task to complete the work of
this committee through Kaitlin’s leadership with a viable end product for our work on this sub-
committee. Throughout and following the sub-committee work, Kaitlin gave detailed and factual
accounts of our meetings and work to the AP committee. She provided documentation and graphics to
increase AP committee understanding of the changes that the metric sub-committee was looking to
make. Kaitlin has a great ability to articulate the problem, provide the solution and explain and answer
questions posed by the committee. Kaitlin was poised and confident throughout this process with
success seen when there was a revised version of the metrics portion of the admission rubric presented
and approved in Faculty Org.

Kaitlin in her leadership role as the practicum lead of NUR 2103P, Competencies for Nursing
Practice I, actively listens and acknowledges the ideas of the team she leads. She demonstrates the same
explementary leadership skills of being articulate, time management, and organization that were
demonstrated in the AP metric sub-committee. Kaitlin brings to the team discussions her passion for
student success and for developing and implementing a course that everyone can be proud to teach.

As I have watched Kaitlin grow within her different roles at Bon Secours Memorial College of
Nursing, I see a passionate and compassionate nurse educator who goes above and beyond the job
description. I fully support Kaitlin in her promotion in rank to Assistant Professor.

Sincerely,

Arlene Holowaychuk, Ed.D, MSN, RN, CNE
