1- INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this document is to point out the various steps to be carried out for the
sheet pile works to meet the requirements of the Contract Works.
This work Method Statement has been arranged to give a clear guidance to the people
working at project site and to ascertain the limits and controls for the quality of works.
2- RELEVANT DOCUMENTS
1. Safety Plan
2. Approved Construction Drawings
3. This method statement
The documents mentioned above form part of this “Work Method Statement of Sheet
Pile Works” and serve as reference if disputes between both Parties occur.
The Method Statement may change according to actual site condition.
3- RESPONSIBILITIES
1.1 Managing the construction of sheet pile works ensuring that these
construction works are carried out in accordance with the approved
documents listed above as well as the requirements of the Contract
Specifications.
2.0 The QAQC Officer (Mr. Noy Sophannara) shall be responsible in leading
and directly supervising the Quality Assurance and Quality Control of the
aforesaid Works.
3.0 Safety Officer (Mr. Khat Sarat) is tasked to ensure that the major
objectives of the plan will be implemented properly to provide
comprehensive measures that will ensure the protection of life and
properties as well as to provide construction efficiency through selective
use of safe work practices and working conditions.
3.1 A personal to guard site access.
3.2 Safety manager to check work safety daily at the beginning of work
shifts such as soil stability condition, ingress and egress to the
excavation area, equipment conditions.
4. LAYOUT PLAN
5. GENERAL
A. INTRODUCTION
Figure. 1
B. DEFINITION
Sheet piles are primarily to retain or support earth and commonly used for
bulkheads and cofferdam s and when excavation depths or soil conditions
require temporary or permanent bracing to support the lateral loads imposed
by the soil or by the soil and adjacent structures.
C. WORK PROCESS
6. PROCEDURE
Material preparation: Due to the raw sheet pile is 237m length, 7m, 9m,
12m length of sheet pile shall pre‐spliced by fillet welding with
400x125x13mm thk. Splice plate on both side.
Sheet pile installation: Use modified excavator vibro hydraulic to drive sheet
pile to design level, and splice location of sheet pile shall be under
excavation level.
Sign boards: All installation works will be carried out within the barricaded
work area. Watchman shall be assigned. For night operation, warning lights
shall be arranged.
Setting out the alignment for sheet pile position. (Exact alignment shall be
given)
Inspection underground services along the alignment for sheet pile to avoid
any damage.
Prepare firm working platform to withstanding the pilling machine.
Mobilization of labors, material and machineries to site.
Driving of sheet pile to the level require or until hard material encounter.
7. RESOURCE ALLOCATION
A. LIST OF MANPOWER
B. LIST OF MACHINERY
C. LIST OF MATERIAL
LBL will employ sufficient qualified sheet pile supervisors in addition to the
experienced site workers and foremen to supervise the works.
A. RECORDS OF INSTALLATION
A sheet pile driving shall be observed during installation of steel sheet piling
unless stated otherwise below.
The sheet pile driving record shall include:
‐ Sheet pile identification number and location, sheet pile type, dimension,
weight, thickness
‐ Date and time of driving, starting and completion time, re‐driving including
stopping and delay, including field splice
‐ Sheet pile inclination
‐ Type of equipment (Vibro‐Hydraulic)
‐ Effective driving depth
‐ Effective sheet pile length
‐ Final level of sheet pile head
‐ Final level of sheet pile point
‐ All information regarding obstructions, delays and other interruptions to the
sequence of work.
B. INSPECTION
Immediately after the driving works along the sheet pilling all joints/interlocks
shall be investigated by the Engineer. Any irregularities, especially jumping of
the interlocks, shall be documented and described in detail.
If any damage or failure in the interlocks or other parts of the sheet pilling should
be detected in the course of these inspections, any requirement has to repair
them and make them good, to the complete satisfaction of the Engineer.
The Safety Officer is tasked with ensuring that the major objectives of the plan
will be implemented properly to provide comprehensive measures that will
ensure the protection of life and properties as well as to provide construction
efficiency through selective use of safe work practices and working conditions.
B. EMERGENCY PLANS
The Contractor will make necessary arrangements with a general hospital near
the vicinity of the site for providing proper and expeditious medical care during
the execution of the works. Safety Personnel shall be assigned to carry our
first aid treatment prior to shifting the patient to hospital if necessary and shall
be available at all times within the vicinity of the working site.
An emergency vehicle equipped with mobile phone will be assigned for carrying the
sick/injured to the hospital. The vehicle driver shall have the same communication to
receive any emergency call relative to Safety matters and shall be available always
within the vicinity of the working site. The (SO) will immediately report to the
Consultant the particulars of any accident or any unusual or unforeseen occurrences
on the site, whether or not they are likely to affect the progress of works.
The Safety Officer shall identify the hazard, the people who might be harmed,
evaluate the risks and decide on precautions, in accordance with the safety
plan.
In order to evaluate the hazard assessment, the Contractor shall conduct
inspections of all workplaces to determine the need for PPE and help in
selecting the proper PPE for each tasks performed. Each survey will document
the workplace surveyed, date of survey, the identified source of hazards and
precautions to be implemented.
The Contractor ensures that the PPE program is implemented in the work area;
defective or damaged equipment are to be immediately replaced; workers must
attend required training sessions and records on hazard assessments are
maintained.
The safety program is to be regularly reviewed, evaluated and if necessary,
updated according to site and working conditions.
- Noise Control
o Provide Construction Noise Permit
o Reduce Noise by ensuring that machines are being operated with doors
closed or that idle plant / equipment are turned off
- Waste Management
o Ensure that site is clean and waste disposed in nominated area
o Waste Area to label type of waste in order to facilitate recycling and
ensure proper disposal
o Ensure that Waste is disposed on a regular basis
o Well maintaining equipment/plants which may be at the origin of waste
(e.i. oil spillage)
- Resource Conservation
o Recycle water when possible (e.g. to prevent dusting)
o Reduce energy consumption by preventing leakage, shutting down idle
equipment
o Maintain materials to prevent deterioration
